Never been particularly convinced by him and he’s not having a great season. Only 2 goals in 8 games. Think we could do better.
Can't say I watch much Ligue 1. His stats were very impressive last season at only 22, so he's certainly an interesting prospect I'd imagine. See how he's doing by January. Could do worse for 40 mil

Worth keeping in mind 11 of his 24 league goals last season came from pens. I know Kane scores a lot of pens but David isn’t that strong of a finisher. I don’t really know if even for €40 mil he’s a good target. Personally I don’t think his skill set match’s particularly well what we need and I also have a feeling he’d struggle with the step up in quality. Having watched him a number of times I have never been entirely convinced by him. For me Selling Richy and buying David wouldn’t make that much sense.

Afcon schedule:
Group Stage: 13th-24th Jan
Last 16: 28th-30th Jan
Quarter finals: 2nd-3rd Feb
Semi finals: 7th Feb
Final: 11th Feb

Tottenham schedule:
Man Utd (A) 14th Jan
FA Cup 4th Rd (TBC) 27th Jan
Brentford (H) 30th Jan
Everton (A) 3rd Feb
Brighton (H) 10th Feb

If our players go all the way to the final at Afcon, they'd miss all 4 (or 5) matches listed above, whereas if they get knocked out in the group stages they might only miss the United game.

Worth noting that Onana, Amrabat, Diallo, Mejbri (all Man Utd), Mbeumo, Wissa, Onyeka (Brentford), Doucoure, Gueye (Everton), Lamptey, Baleba, Adingra and Chouchane (Brighton) could also be missing for their respective clubs when we play them.

Do we have any games in the week leading up?
Presumably they will join their national teams at least a week before the first game.

6th Jan will be FA Cup 3rd round weekend, that's the last match before Afcon starts.

I'll take your word for it.

For that price point, who would be your choice?

Orban and David in the bin you reckon

Winter Window
New CB, one capable of playing right or left, complimenting Romero and VdV. I’m more that happy with them as a starting pair, but we need someone to take the load off.
New CM, someone capable of playing the Bissouma role, technically proficient, agile/dynamic and tenacious. If Bentancur is deemed to be able to cover this, then maybe a CM with workrate who can drive through midfield. I like Douglas Luiz, think he could do either role.
New Forward, either a LWF that can create and be a cutting edge, or else a mobile and accurate finisher CF, someone who can work their way into space and get a shot on target reliably. Depends on where Richarlison ends up being viewed as a better option.

I think with Sanchez having gone, we’re ok for space in the squad to bring a non HG CB in. I’d be looking to let Hojbjerg go to bring in a new CM. Then maybe look at releasing Perisic to go and start his rehab at Hadjuk Split now, to bring in another forward. Does Lo Celso get another opportunity, or do we look to make change their also?? For that role, I could be tempted to make do with Sarr and Bentancur, then leave a pathway for Devine/Donley. Likewise I’d only be looking at one CB, keep an eye on Phillips and Dorrington’s development. Forward is the odd one, do we add, or do we look at our free scoring U21’s forwards? Soonsup-Bell appears to be playing RWF or CF and doing some damage, Santiago at LWF, Lankshear, Veliz (and Scarlett and Parrott on loan).

Summer window
LB, Backup GK.

I think we will go for 2 additions but can't say in which position. For me I think it should be CB and LW

There’s the Asia Cup too at about the same time so we will miss Son too. That month could be the difference in where we finish in the league without adequate incomings at the start of the window.

Key positions for me. Some good options out there in the LWF position. Would love to get Neto

imagine Lloyd Kelly will be the CB

think we need to start to see if there is a buyer for Richy too out there

Don't know about cheap, more like a big risk, no doubt about the talent, but also might only have 2-3 seasons in him.
Why would he only have 2-3 seasons in him

A quality LW would transform our attack if Son can keep this level for another 2 seasons

Nico Williams looks like he’s in a bidding war as will be free

Mitoma would cost 2x

Neto would elevate us to the next level I think

I think it’s a tricky question at the moment. Son is now our number 1 striker so what are we realistically looking for, a player that slots straight into the starting 11 or a prospect?

Son I think doesn’t work as a winger in the system and personally i don’t think we should be looking to bench him as he has been excellent at CF. Spending 40/50/60+ mil on a striker im just not sure makes much financial sense atm.

So then a young prospect but then what about Veliz? I know we haven’t seen much of him but by all accounts he’s greatly impressing in training. Do we want to get another young striker to compete with him? I’m not sure if we brought one in they would have enough game time to develop.

Reality is Richy needs to move on imo and we will need another player who can play up top, especially next season if we get into Europe. My concern tho is keeping three strikers happy and, if two of them are young, developing them both properly.

As far as young strikers the one I’m by far most impressed with who is supposedly available for around €20/25 mil is Marcos Leonardo. I think he’s exactly the type of fox in the box we need. Boniface is the other most impressive young CF about but Leverkusen will probably be looking for £60/70 mil for him if not probably more. For that reason alone I think he’s a pointless target.

On the flip side tho we don’t buy anyone and instead invest that money in a top quality WF and we use Johnson as the third CF option whilst putting our faith into Veliz.

Tbh at the moment I’d happily put the striker question on hold until summer (although Leonardo will likely move in Jan) and give Veliz as much game time as possible to see if he can take on the role of 2nd striker. This winter I’d focus on a LCB, replacement for PEH (assuming he leaves) and possibly a top quality WF if Gil can’t step up or if Richy leaves.
