How are we falling behind. This is our best league start in how many years. We have a stadium coming... WHY the negativity?
yes having the best league start is great but we shouldn't ignore league position, contract issues, the team's performance, strengthened competitors, injuries etc.

IMO the De Ligt ship has sailed. Equally I wouldn't want us paying anywhere near that kind of money for a CB who is still very young. I think he ends up at Barca, a team that can afford to pay silly money and still sit him on their bench for a while.

I'd rather Spurs look at a player like Jonathan Tah for CB. No idea what he'd cost but don't see it being as much as De Ligt.

We need to be putting all our effort into N'Dombele. If we try in January (unlikely?) then it may be just early enough to nip in before the big guns start circling because by next summer he's gonna be out of our reach I think.

Agree. As a Spurs fan i always retain some hope - that's ultimately what will kill me but i think you're right in that the time to get some of these players (before bigger budgets come in) is very short.

For me, the realistic time to get De Ligt was probably when we signed Sanchez with a loan back of some sort. Maybe there was a time afterwards when goodwill and trust was still strong after our deal but i think we're a long way from that now. Unless the player has a preference.

Similar with N'Dombele - i'd hope that we're not messing around (if interest in genuine) with a player we have no real shot at, but our chance to move was probably before his last move. I know it's a gamble and N'Jie and N'Koudou have both shown sometimes nabbing that player before they grow a bit in the French league is a bad idea but we need to be better than that.

I'd love a Modric/Berba type signing right now - a player with quality on the brink of stepping up to the next level. Last one of those was Eriksen probably?

I dunno if this is the right sub-forum for this but I couldn't find a speculation one. If it's not, please move it.

Just had a thought. Was listening to 5Live reporting that Mourinho has ruled out Ibrahimovic going back to ManU in January.
That got me thinking, would Zlatan be a fantastic January short term option. We're being desperate for another top class target man to take the pressure off Kane, but no one of real quality would want to sit on the bench.
Unless, of course, they are 37 years old but still arrogant enough (in a good way) to believe they'll prove how good they are.

I reckon it could be a masterstroke. Someone to bring on for the last 20-25 minutes, giving Kane a rest but without losing a powerful impeding target man up front.

I don't know about Zlatan, but I've heard that Ryan Nelsen & Louis Saha are pretty good January signings. Maybe we should go for them...

What makes you think he'd be happy playing second fiddle to Kane.
He has the biggest ego in world football...never gonna happen.

As of Friday 26th October 2018 we are joint 5th level on points with third spot and 2pts off 1 who we play next.

CL has been unfortunate I will say we’ve been extremely unlucky and a touch naive.

As for contact issues don’t you feel the clubs been proactive with contracts ? Last time I checked Kane Lamela Sanchez Winks Alli Son and some others had signed improvements.

Pope or Heaton are no brainers. Burnley can’t keep all three and they’d be dirt cheap.
Pope maybe. He’s young enough to work on his playing out from the back, and thing difficult things Poch asks from a keeper. Heaton’s just not good enough.

Lo Celso scored a screamer against Milan last night. I still think he should be our number 1 target for a Eriksen back up. He can play as an AM and a CM, he’s left footed and only 22. PSG are happy to let him go for financial reasons and value him around 25 mil.
We should follow every CM that plays at Betis. Ceballos & Fabian Ruiz we should have been all over.

Exactly the types of players we should be going after, because after a season at Leverkusen, Monaco, etc. they would be way out of our price range.
Unfortunately in some instances these players also need that year at those clubs to bridge the gap between the league they've been in and where they have a realistic shot at starting for us (I think this about Foyth a lot) so it's not always cut and dry. I wish we had a better loan system with clubs in Europe to fascilitate these kinds of moves and be beneficial to both parties.

Like Bobby Boucher's Mamma? ...

Be nice if we didn't send people with the supposed talent level of Onomah on loan to shitty Sheffield Wednesday though, eh?

Sidenote, is that frowned upon in football? Most sports here couldn't care less if athletes did that, American Football is even slowly coming around to the idea.
Yeah I think it's frowned upon. Does it happen? ... Maybe. I think the drug tests are regular in football.
