Goal keeping was woeful though.
I have to say that's one of my biggest criticisms of the women's game. The level have improved so much over recent years but the goalkeeping leaves a lot to be desired still.
Maybe that's to do with the height issue?

Was it for that or a possible off-side in the build up as I thought the goal lien tech was a yes/no thing.
I think the fuck up in the Sheff U - Villa game a couple of years ago led to them changing the rule so VAR does an double check if it's too tight to see.

Could be wrong though.

I know Old Trafford has GLT, but did UEFA spend money for the other small stadiums to have it? I guess I assume so.

I have a half-theory on that. I think we are coming to the last group of women for whom goalkeeper wasn't a speciality position in kids teams.

With the increasing popularity in girls football we will start seeing a higher volume of keepers that have spent their whole childhood learning the position, and who have spent maybe 10 years at a pro club with pro coaches.

Possible up until now that might not have happened to the same extent as centre forwards for example. Over the next five years I bet women keepers will start to improve across the board.

That goal wasn't a height issue, it was a "what the fuck am I doing" issue.

England looking much more in control now. Another before HT would be good though.

I think its height and athleticism. women just cant fling themselves on the goal line like the men can, which is why you see a lot of weird goals

Started off a bit slow but grew into it and be interesting to see if they come on strong in the 2nd half again. The strength in depth has been key from what I've seen recently.

they have a lot of depth and good fitness too, teams struggle against them in the second half of games

But if she's 6ft 6 then she probably claws it away even though she's fucked up her positioning.
And if she was 6'6" tall and 12ft wide her positioning wouldn't have mattered at all.

Point is she was in no man's land and flapping.

I just checked to see if she plays for a professional team. It turns out she plays for Arsenal. So she doesn't :cautious:

Fair enough, I think it looks worse because she's easier to chip.

I agree. I've been to a couple of my nieces matches this season and it does feel a bit like "chuck the fat lass in goal/defence".
Hopefully, that will improve into a specialist position because even at their county level, there are some bloody good players, just the keepers tend to be a bit suspect still.
