25.4 million viewers in the US for the final. Second most watched sporting event of 2015 so far.

Over nights came in......peaked at 30.9 million viewers in the 8.30 pm-8.45 pm time frame.

Means that the WWC final had more viewers at it's peak than the men's WC final match (26.5 million viewers), more viewers than the US Men vs. Portugal (18m), more viewers than the 2011 WWC final (18+m), the NBA finals or the NHL Stanley cup finals this year and just fell short of the NCAA Final from this year.

It also became the most viewed football match in US history.

That's pretty a impressive accomplishment for a sport that people supposedly don't care about.

I think its important to remember that football doesn't need to be #1 in the US. It can be a distant 2nd or 3rd to the NFL/College football and even the NBA, but still a behemoth of a market. The UK has about 65M people. Would it be a stretch to say that maybe 40M consider themselves a "football fan"? Its not hard to imagine a scenario where 50M Americans consider themselves fans, but it still only being the third most popular sport in the US. Who cares? That still makes it a bigger market than any individual European nation. Its still enough to drive TV rights, advertising, etc.
