23-man squad:

Hart;
Walker, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines;
Carrick, Wilshere;
Johnson, Barkley, Lallana;
Rooney.

Subs: Foster, Jones, Davies, Gerrard, Townsend, Carroll, Sturridge.

Others: Butland, Shaw, Barry, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Rodriguez.

Dare I say things don't look that bad? Well it doesn't make me want to kill myself, anyway.

I forgot about Oxlade Chamberlain. He might make the team if his return from injury continues to go well.

I'd be a bit worried that your team above is too attacking, but actually it has enough good passers of the ball to control a game. I think we want to include Sturridge though based on his current form.

Sadly Gerrard will be included whatever happens so we're unlikely to see the above lineup.

I agree that Sturridge and Gerrard will be in. I wanted to include Sturridge but I've yet to see him play well for England and he's a greedy little bastard. Similar frustrating qualities to Defoe. I'd honestly have Carroll ahead of him, at least he'd bring Rooney, Lallana and Johnson into games.

You don't think Sturridge could spark up a partnership with Rooney like he has with Suarez?

Raheem Sterling seems to be playing himself into contention as well now, Ox-Chamberlain's brace in the week wouldn't have done any harm either.

Everton fans don't think Barkley is playing well at the moment and want him dropped. Now he did suffer a huge loss of form last season so we wait and see.

Stop winding me up please:D

The Ox was anonymous against Liverpool, I didn't realise he was playing until the 67 min!

I think Henderson will be pushing for a starting spot, all the other english CM's aren't at their best form; Carrick(come back from injury), Wilshere(is a prick!), Barkley(injury and loss of form) and Gerrard(looks old though best dead ball specialist)

At the moment you could make a strong case for Barry as wello_O

England Squad for Denmark friendly.

England call up Southampton's Luke Shaw for Denmark game
Southampton defender Luke Shaw has been named in the England squad for the first time for the friendly against Denmark at Wembley next Wednesday.

The 18-year-old left-back is joined in a 30-man squad by Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling, 19, and Everton midfielder Ross Barkley, 20.

National boss Roy Hodgson has recalled Cardiff defender Steven Caulker, 22, for the first time in more than a year.

But Sunderland's Adam Johnson and Everton's Gareth Barry miss out.

Wednesday's game is the final chance for Hodgson to see his players in action before he names his squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Barry, 33, won the last of his 53 England caps in a pre-Euro 2012 friendly against Norway in Oslo.

Johnson, 26, has not featured since he was an unused substitute against Poland in 2012, but the winger has scored seven goals in his past nine club appearances

Caulker scored in his only England appearance to date, in November 2012, but his performance was overshadowed by Sweden striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic netting four goals.

More to follow.

England squad:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich City).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Steven Caulker (Cardiff City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), Kyle Walker (Tottenham Hotspur).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Andros Townsend (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Forwards: Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC), Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Jay Rodriguez (Southampton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Daniel Welbeck (Manchester United).

How Smalling and Cleverley have been selected I've no idea... Really is so predictable. Good to see Caulker get a call up though.

Would do we think after the last friendly before the WC then?

Lallana has done enough already IMO and if he stays fit is on the plane.

Hodgson has a big decision between Ashley Cole or Luke Shaw. Go for experience with a player not playing competitive games or the new kid who is!

Sterling did well and worked hard.
