England do play in 4 days as it stands. How many times do teams play a weakened side mid-week before a big Saturday game? At least this way the most of the first 11 will have a full week off like their bodies are used to.

The difference is a club has all season to work on team tactics - the national team has a few weeks. Resting Walker makes sense because of the cards. But otherwise, should have used this match to build continuity and confidence.
