Watching the warm up games it looks like a ploy, Kane drops deep and Lingard, Sterling and Alli run into the space vacated for them, Kane playing deeper effectively renders him useless as a striker but it's working.
Given we are hardly scoring from open play I'd disagree

Have to say that Sterling was utterly dreadful today, yet again. Yes he runs around, but he will cost us at some point down to the fact that he cannot score a goal. He is playing as a striker and has zero composure.

With the level of expectation as a factor I think he is the most disappointing player I’ve ever seen in an England shirt. He is somehow stopping better players from having their chance and is simply wrong.

I was just thinking that Croatia weren't taking them seriously enough, they seemed to be strutting around and then BAM! What a cracker.

Still not sure who I would prefer England to play next! Russia should be easier, but at home! Croatia should be harder but won't just sit and defend most the time.

Nobody is going to bring up the fact that this entire Russian team is almost certainly doping? Get on it English media.
