I really hate this question, and inevitably most of the answers.

When I go to watch spurs all I give a shit about is that we win and I am entertained. Whether a thick as shit spit roasting chav from nottingham helps me achieve this goal, a bylingual bulgarian with a semi political raisen d'etre or tee-total african muslim I really couldn't give a shit. I am paying for the best possible product. If a croatian instead of a brit means I get that why the fuck should it bother me any more than watching foreign lion tamers at the circus ?

English players are invariably over paid and under talented. Why an earth would you want more of them in a team ?

If you want to see an english team go and watch Engerland. But if you want to watch good football, don't.

Are the 'It will make a difference' crowd attempting to call themselves REAL Spurs supporters? It is not England that we are supporting but SPURS....One are worth our support....the other....optional! I, for one, want MY THFC to have the best players...irrespective of nationality or colour/creed. IF there is an Englishman who warrants a spot in the team...well he will always be there according to how he performs....as long as he performs. That applies to everyone. A fool would support a CRAZY policy of English only....but England won the WC in 1666 or was that the Civil War? Either way....it is Ancient History.
The THFC that I support is multi national...as long as the players/officials are committed 'Yids'....or for at least the period of their tenure at WHL (or it's successor!). COYS!

Yes, it would bother me if we had no home-grown talent in the team.

British footballers are still among the best in the world so there's no reason why we should shun or exclude them.

IF a player is good enough....be he any nationality...he should play for is team of choice. The alternative would be to discriminate on grounds of colour or creed....and we have 'been there' before....and we have 'seen the light' or so I thought. However, once again we are seeing the English is Best raising it's ugly (and outdated) head?
On the other hand...perhaps some of our number would prefer to have a second class team to keep the 'purity' of the Nation? Dream on my fellow Yids! I support THFC...NOT England so I have no quams about who plays for MY team, as long as they are the BEST! COYS!

It would bother me, but not if all English players were shit.

Why would you have a shit foreigner instead of a shit English player? I mean some of the gooner team could easily be replaced with shit English Players- Diaby and Eboue spring to mind, why didn't the scum just buy two English retards?

I've criticized arse for their team of foreigners for ages so I would be a hypocrite if if I wasn't bothered.

I can remember countless posts here about the pride we had for our English contigent....it's funny how that's changed.

No.

On the contrary, I'd prefer an entire Brazilian team, or French, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian team. Or German team. or entire Argentinian team. Or entire Dutch team.

There aren't enough good British players. None that can rival foreign players anyways. Whilst they may be "good", you can't compare them to the best players in the world. Bently Joe Cole and Rooney? Really??? I think an English defence would be good.. But afraid it has to be all foreign after that.

....That is if you actually want Spurs to win anything...?

If you people are happy to continue mediocrity, with an English team, then I guess you're loco.

You may say that but I've always maintained that what sets United (for example) apart from say Arsenal is the fact that the British players give them a different, gritty dimension.

I think I'm right in saying that when Rooney didn't play for United this season - they lost, or at least that was the case up untill around January when I heard that.

The smell of success I guess.

The whole 'le arse' thing & moaning about them not representing england, or not being an english team and it being a disgrace was nothing but jealousy on the part of most Tottenham fans.

Okay I'm not British, so the thread doesn't necessarily apply to me.

But what I would say, is that if you look at Chelsea and United, you will see a British spine. And while Liverpool initially went away from it, Rafa has been trying to add British talent recently. And for their part, all of these teams have had success. And no Liverpool wasn't just the UCL. In the meantime, Arsenal has won nothing since giving up on British talent. It's a necessary component to playing in any league that the team have players from the country. So you can't get rid of the British spine and expect success.

So even though I am Canadian.....I say fielding a non-English squad would be devastating. The trick is using your money wisely with English talent because of the cost.

Yep I agree, Chelsea have it too, in a lesser form but then they did spend unreal amounts buying the biggest and best in Europe, but they do miss their key players (Lampard/Terry/Colex2) when they don't play.

Agree with DeadwoodDem, we need to have a British spine.

tell me if I',m wrong but I thought Uefa were setting a minimun number of home produced (i.e. from a youth system in the country, but not neccesarily the country itself), player that a team had to play. If thats so then surely we'll need a certain number of UK player as not many foreign players start in uk academies.

Not being funny or anything but the only player who's british in our team at the moment is Alan Hutton. Keano is from the republic, not part of Britain. Hutton wasn't part of the team two years ago. I'll give Bale and Gunter and Hutton if we're saying British but we're talking english here.

I konw I'm being picky, sorry.

Woodgate? Jenas? Lennon? they are all ENGLISH! and are in our team! :duh:

you either need:

- some geography lessons

or

- need to watch Tottenham a bit more!

Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English.... Let's be honest they are all the same when we are talking about 'homegrown players'. An Irishman isn't exactly considered a foreigner is he?

Yes, but bottom line comes down to whether the players are good enough. Success and entertainment over sentiment every time.

You misunderstood me. Being from Northern Ireland I have a heightened sense of what is meant by British built in. I was referring to the players who weren't english. But from the other countries in the British isles. But hey thanks for the wanker smiley. Says a lot.

I think it's important to maintain the English/British tradition. I don't see how satisfaction can be derived from watching an entirely foreign Spurs side. Surely part of why people support the club is due to its tradition and its origins. There should at least be a few players who are familiar with the club's tradition/history and who can more easily identify with that tradition. And that only really occurs with home grown players.

I just got thinking about this today when I looked at all our iTK threads and rumours. So far we've been linked with 3 english players. And in fairness 2 were just mentions in another thread. The rest are all players from mainland europe or south america or africa.

So the question I'm asking you fellow Spurs men and women is would a team with no english players in it bother you?

Personally I'd say yes. I'm not english, in fact I'm a proud Ulsterman, but my club is english. I'm proud of the fact that every week we boast at least 4 or 5 home grown players in the team. But does success really mean we have to abandon this romantic notion. Are english players good enough to take us to the next level?

Your thoughts please

Yes, yes it would bother as I don't want us to be some kind foreign legion like Scum or Chelscum.

It's not a wanker smiley, it's a 'you're crazy' smiley.
