Just watched the highlights. Pretty obviously we weren’t playing at full pelt, even Hugo wasn’t diving the full length of his goal etc. I think people need to remember this is our first friendly and right now it’s all about fitness and feel. It looked like a fun game and it’s nice to see Sonny getting the adulation of his home crowd.

My thoughts (bearing in mind it's pre-season so fitness is the main thing in these games):
  • Richarlisons hold up play and close control looked like a strength
  • Lucas looked far more effective with little jinks to get out of close pressure and laying the ball off (whereas he usually holds on too long and runs into somebody)
  • Wing backs were pushed further forward than last season but Royal & Sess both looked very rusty
  • Central midfield looked strong in all combinations (very important area of strength this season)
  • Kane's quality shone through as soon as he came on
  • Nice touch to give Son the pen so he could score and grab the back page celebration images

Kane is just different class these days. Not just his goal scoring or even his assists, but his all round play and attitude on the pitch. Just looks a step up from everyone else in most games.

Once again Sanchez showed he can't play LCB, he's absolutely fine as RCB

We missed Ben so much, hope all the Davies deniers and doubters take note.
Ben is a top LCB, he no more needs upgrading than Romero or Dier
Fortunately in Lenglet we now have good back up and rotation, hopefully
Still think Rodon can cover too, but I guess he may well leave

Delighted to see White play so well. As I've said before to the HG hystericals, Devine and White are good bench material, and I trust both of them

Did Perisic play?
Still injured AFAIK, worried both him and Kulu will miss Soton
EDIT
just seen Conte update. Looks like Perisic should be okay for Soton. We're going to need him big time with Richarlison out and posiibly Kulu too

Southampton is over 3 weeks away. I very much doubt they aren't fit enough for it

Edit kulusevski was out training today on the pitch with davies and conte said perisic should be involved in full training tomorrow

He looks like he's back loving the club now, beaming with smiles all round, after Conte's appointment, fantastic backroom staffs' appointments, and great signings early in the window.

As suspected. Hope a good and quick recovery

Hope it is just a positive test and nothing with bad symptoms, i am just recovering from it after catching it for the first time and i was in bed for 4 days straight with a banging headache and what feels like your eyes burning as well as a really bad cough, i then lost my sense of smell for 3 days and i have the remains of the cough still, 10 days on. Thank god i had the vaccines because that could have been way worse.

Yep, I guess Bissouma and Forster are vaxxed, hope so anyway
I expect both to be ready for Soton.
Skipp is ready to start on today's evidence, as are Hojberg and Bentancur
