Would we benefit from selling Modric this summer?

He has been rubbish for months and I agree he should be dropped but no way in hell will he be.

I would sell him to city for stupid money, they will soon grow tired of him and move on to the next big superstar anyway.

Exactly.

As he uses us, so shall he be used.

He really dosen't look interested, so yeah probably sell him, but what a shame.......

Players like Luka don't come along very often, when he is on form he is one of the best. He is without doubt one of the best players i have seen at the lane, his vision and passing can be sublime. It would break my heart to see him at Chelsea, playing like he did a while back. If he goes, please anwhere but Chelsea...............

We could have built a team around him. This is the best squad of players that i can remember (maybe they are not as good as we sometimes think they are, but they are good, and a few are great). They just dont seem to have any direction at the moment, and Luka's head has dropped so far he just isnt the player he was.......

So yeah, sell him (maybe), but it will be a sad day when the little man pulls on some other teams shirt.

If Citeh are genuinely interested then at least we will get serious wedge and potentially a player, realistically I would like Johnson. I don't think Levy will sell to Chelski, not after last summer and the way they conduct their business.

I could see us getting 50 million from City for him, that would do nicely.

It might also give us more bargaining power regarding Adebayor...in other words we'll pay them less for him, and that saving can be built into a lump sum he gets - to offset a drop in wages.

City would take him all day long, not just because of his ability but it stops Chelsea or United becoming stronger and a player of Modric's ability is exactly what they need to freshen up their respective midfields.....Scholes, Lampard etc can't go forever.

Harry will never drop Modric.

I don't see how selling him to any of the clubs we're trying to catch in the prem can be beneficial. If he wants to leave that much then sell him abroad but not to a team in the same league.

I'm with you.

Sell and get the Sheik's ransom.

Use the money to maximise our club.

For anyone who still wants him and remembers his 'class'... he isn't going to give us his 'class' anymore.

At least Cristiano Ronaldo played his gut out in his last season at Man Utd... but that's a tangent and can be left as one.

Sell the little fucker. (Preferably to Anzhi or PSG)
Spend fee on J. Hoilett, C. Dempsey, J. Allen,
Build next season around Rafa.

But what if say Inter are offering £30mil and City are offering £40mil, there is only one place he'll be going.

My rationale is this - We arn't catching City no matter what anyway, rinse them big style.

For me with our current players we should be playing 4-2-3-1 anyway and I thiunk the "2" in midfield should have more defensive qualities than offensive. SO for me the 2 should always be between Parker/Sandro/Livermore. VdV, Lennon, Bale, Modric should be fighting it out for the "3" attacking spots. And as a no 10 I'd rather have VdV than Modric, not as pleasing on the eye and doesn't make fancy passes but knows how to find the back of the net while can also drop deep.

The move must benefit our club most.

If we can get an enormous fee from City and get him off our wage bill, a sensible club will use the hydra approach, where one head falls, several others must grow - then we get plenty of young 'uns in and a PROPER coach and coaching set up.

Redknapp is not a 'fit' to Levy's original plan. He was a crisis manager, our crisis is different now.

Was dead against selling last season but not any more. Given his ability, experience and importance to our team to see him coasting through games at a time when we really need him has been hugely disappointing. Sell him to the highest bidder and use the money on a couple of decent players that want to be at Tottenham. I would also be in favour of leaving him out for the last few games and going with 4231 with two from Livermore, Sandro or Parker in the middle. Don't mean to make him the scapegoat but we need to show some fight for the last few games and Modric jusn't hasn't got it.

As good a player as he is, I think by no means is he as integral to our team and style of play as he was this time last year. Looking a bit of a luxury player to me.

If he is sold, we will need to invest well. I don't like the idea of Hudd and Livermore being our only alternatives for CM, I think a creative midfielder (Eriksen?) and another Parker/Sandro type player could be easily bought with the £30m-£40m we could get from his sale.

If he coasts any more he'll cost us CL at Chelsea's expense.

Oh, who wanted him...?

Maybe Harry would get more benefit if he used Modric properly instead of having him chase his tail in a wide open midfield.

I don't understand why Modric is being scapegoated. The problem is, as DefchenKo said, he is being played in the wrong tactical way. He isn't a holding midfielder or a water carrier, but that is the job he is being asked to do every time Redknapp plays a 4 man midfield. This problem is exacerbated when the wide players are Bale and Lennon - who Redknapp acknowledged last week "can't play the system".

When the alternative's are Livermore or Huddlestone, you seriously want to sell Modric ? Fuck in hell.

How easy do you think it will be to replace a player of Modric's ability ? I think you are all suffering from a touch of "take what you have for granted".

If we go back to 4231/433 we would start to see the best of the little fella, as well as those around him.

Modric has always lacked balls to play in a midfield two and compounded when we set up like we did with Bale left and Lennon right.

I still think, regardless of what we think of him now, that we will miss him as he keeps things ticking over in the middle just like Carrick used to and it's those type of players you don't know what you've got till it's gone.

I agree, if we get a huge offer in for him then I would be tempted to part ways now and perhaps is best for both parties but make no bones about it, he won't be easy to replace.

But what's the point BC if Harry isn't going to play that system on a regular basis? (forgetting England for the moment)...

Yes, he definitely needs to be part of a three, but I don't think he wants to be here regardless next season...he has the look of a player who doesn't give a fuck about our current plight.

I still think Harry thinks that 4-3-3 is best when we are low on confidence and he's trying to grind results out, its the only plausible explanation as to why he's deviated away from it again. He's still associating it with being negative.
