Why are people so overwhelmingly confident that selling Modric means that the incoming transfer money will be spent on a high level replacement? I have an incredbily difficult time believing that we will spend 25 million pounds on someone like Eriksen (though I rate him very highly).
If Modric goes, I fear it will be done later in the window, giving us little time to line up a replacement. If he is sold, he should be out the door as soon as the window opens. Unfortunately, recent transfer windows has shown that we like to wait until the last days of August to get deals done. That simply isn't an effective strategy if we decide we need to replace our best player in the 11th hour, since: A.) A number of the more desirable replacements will have already been sold, B). Clubs will hold us up for a massive ransom, C). No time to acclimate new player into squad.
The same argument goes for selling Bale or anyone else in the first team. We shouldn't do it unless we have targets lined up and we are ready to spend to get them in.
