Would you be sad to see Taarabt go?

Would you be sad to see Adel leave?

Because I for one would be. It would be a crying shame to see a player with all the raw talent leave our club after very little development. After Harry's words of praise for him midway through last season, I thought 2009/10 would see Adel getting plenty of caps off the bench. This story is all over the press and appears fairly reliable. I believed that he would develop into a fine player for Spurs and a firm crowd-favourite, instead it looks like he's heading off to work on his tan in Spain.

Nope. IMO he's done little to support the hype he gets on here from some people, so if Harry is happy for him to go then I'm not fussed. If he was that brilliant I'd expect to have seen more of him by now.

Te trouble with the yoof today is that they want it all NOW. Dos Santos and taraabt are just two who feel they should have a decent crack at first team football. I guess a move away to a club with a smaller spotlight on them may help to improve their game.

On the other hand, with the Reserves not playing in a league next season, we will most likely see a lot more loans of our more promising players happening.

I'd love to see him loaned to a championship or lower PL club for the season. He needs to round his game a bit.

Its all well and good having raw talent, but you need the mentality to go with it. He hasn't shown the mentality to really want to develop his game. He hasn't done anything that suggests he really wants to make it into the first team. His attitude doesn't seem right to me, and he hasn't done nearly enough in the few years he's been here to warrant a place in the first team squad. Theres only so long we can carry young players like this. Its up to those players to do more to get recognised. We saw Lennon burst onto the scene because he really wanted to make an impression. With Routledge out injured, he ceased the opportunity. Taarabt hasn't shown that sort of attitude.

IMO, we should sell Taarabt now and give the likes of Bostock and Rose a few opportunities next season (probably in the Cups).

I'd be happy to see him loaned out for a year to a Championship team where he can be a regular starter so he can work on his all round game. There's no doubt he's got ability but without the work rate and ability to graft and be a team player his ability wont count for anything. If he doesn't show any signs of progression after a full season under his belt then we should count our losses and get rid.

for me, he gets the same praise and adulation from people on this site as Dos Santos gets.
They are a couple of talented young players, and thats all IMO. Neither of them really impressed when given chances of first team football, and the fact that they don't get that many chances in the first place speaks volumes.

I wouldn't be that bothered if we let the both of them go. Who knows, we come to regret it in 2/3 years, but i somehow doubt it.

Taarabt is endemic of a lot of our young players over the last decade or so. They come with some ability, and plenty of potential, and 3/4 years later they have the same ability, and no signs of fulfilling that potential. Taarabt had more potential than most, but potential is useless if you never turn into ability.

The upheavel we have had over the last 3 years certainly hasnt helped, and our poor form doesnt make it easy to bring in youngsters. Harry might put more faith in the younger players like Rose, Parratt, Bostock, as he can shape them more, whereas players like Adel might be a little set in their ways

I cant remember a player leaving us and then becoming world class though. Campbell, Carrick and Berbatov were world class for us and we already knew they were special. I'm not sure who has left us though and reached those sort of heights without us knowing how good they would be. We've had a number of players go on and do really well (usually in a lesser league) but not reach world class status.

Graeme Souness... albeit that's quite a long time ago now.

Loan for a season then back - the boy needs to learn his trade but has huge potential and should be kept

100% agree, I also think the same for Dos Santos, if they can both have a full season of first team football then it will do their development a world of good.

Adel is a young player with an abundance of raw talent. He has been overhyped by some fans but I can't help but feel that we should hang on to him.

So much goes on behind the scenes that we're unaware of and it could be that he's unhappy in England or has a poor attitude. If that's the case then there's probably little we can do but to let him go. But if he's shown any kind of desire to go on loan and work on his game then it would be a crying shame to lose him. I really do see similarities to a young Ronaldo when he first joined Man U. The fact is that Spurs are not in the kind position that United or Arsenal are when it comes to giving youth a chance and that may mean that some youngsters don't get the the opportunities that they could otherwise expect.

I don't really know what the standard of youngsters is like in our youth team - it could be that Rose or Bostock or an.other could fill Adel's position and be close to the first team. I certainly feel though that anybody who has the raw skill, the pace and the confidence that Adel has, should be nurtured for a bit longer. I really don't see anybody like him in the Spurs squad currently - not even Modric.

Beckham was only a schoolboy for Spurs at the school of excellence, so he never would have had a contract then. Man Utd soon swooped and signed him early at age 14 so i wouldn't count that.

Didn't know about Souness, but it goes to show how long back you have to look. It rarely happens.

I would, think he has potential and we have seen in the past some of the great things he can do. But I worry that he hasn't got the patience at Spurs... :?

I wouldn't be sad if he left but I think players, especially young players, need time to realise their potential. That said, this would be his third season. If we were in the Europa I'd say keep him and playing him in the group stages and carling cup games to give our senior players a rest. Since we're not in that now, there's not much point.
