We have sold a few of our magnificent seven this summer at a loss.

Soldado just didn't like he was going to work out, Capoue didn't seem to have the right attitude and Chiriches just didn't look good enough.

Lamela had a tough first season with his injury. Last season he showed some improvement getting a few assists and tried to implement the pressing side into his game. But if we're honest he wasn't good enough.

I know some have written him off quickly and I like to give players a chance but if he didn't have the reputation as a big time player I'd have given up last season.

I know there is another Lamela thread but I want to gauge how many people would add Lamela to the list of players we are to take a loss on and how many feel there is hope he could become a player for us.

His reputation in Italy allows us to recoup some level of money for him.

Depends on whether there's a replacement and who the replacement is. If we sold for £16m and bought a replacement for a similar price (assuming its someone worth that amount) then yeah, definitely.

I think if we can get £15m+ then we should. I like him, but it's just not going to work here. He's not got the pace to play out wide in the prem and it doesn't look like he's gonna get a chance to play through the middle.

Could get Yarmolenko with the money and have some left over.

this is where I am at with him. I want it to work out, I want him to be a success but he isn't.. and doesn't look to me like he will be.

No guarantees that Yarmolenko or anyone else would be either, but I think the directness of someone like Yarmolenko is more of an asset than the intricate play Lamela tries.

In 2 seasons he's done pretty much fuck all...I honestly think this season is his last chance and he looked completely out of his depth on Saturday. At this point I'd snap someone's hand off for the £16m, but would we sign a replacement in time? Doubtful.

Same with everyone above. I really want him to work out but he's not demonstrated a decent level of progress for one reason or another. Now that he's likely to pick up much of the scapegoating for poor results, I can't really see it's getting better for him.

£16m is a lot of money but I feel that our own ability to attract potential talent has dropped since signing Lamela, Paulinho and Soldado... so got to persist with him for me.

i'd say anything north of 18m i would sell. I wouldnt really be up in arms if we sold all of 'the magnificent 7' Dont think any are good or consistant enough to get us where we need to go.

Id sell for £16 million. Really would like it to work for him over here and for him to prove all the critics wrong but I just not sure that is going to happen. I just don't think he is suited to the English game he needs too much time on the ball which as we all know is not what you get in England. Sure he would go back abroad and prove a hit.

I'd sell. I said in the Lamela thread the other night if we can get Yarmalenko in with the fee we'd get for Lamela we should.

Wanted it to work out for him but unfortunately I just don't think he's suited to the Premier League, too weak, gives away too many fouls and needlessly loses possession.

Definitely.

I like Lamela. I like his attitude, I like his willingness to succeed. I like his skillset. I just honestly don't think he will make it as RWF in this league.

A number 10 possibly but it looks like Poch isn't going to play him there. In which case, sell.

Buy Berahino, use him and N'Jie as wing forwards (Chadli, Townsend, Dembele etc as backup) and get Austin as understudy to Kane.

Seriously, we would be much better off.

I'm 50/50. He does some good things, and works hard, but he doesnt seem to learn/understand what he can and cannot get away with in this league and I doubt he is ever going to adapt to this league.

Its not his fault, but when you pay that price (especially a club at our level) you are expecting, no demanding, consistency. He's so far from it at this point I can see why some would sell.

Probably one more year, as I don't see us buying an alternative at this stage with striker and centre mid more immediate priorities.

We were mugged off by Roma..... Baldini or whoever bought him fucked up royally, lets not kid ourselves anymore , Lamela isn't going to cut it with us for whatever reason, this is his 3rd season i have thrown the towel in on him.
Any decent offer should be seriously considered before his value goes any further down, i would rather give Pritchard a chance than waste anymore time on Lamela...so yes i would take a painful hit and sell for 15m.

Still far too lightweight. You'd have hoped that the off the pitch work could have been done in the previous 2 years. Zero signs of that being improved. Without that, everything else is moot really. Godammit to hell. What a sodding bait and switch that summer was. A couple of good signings but the majority have not just been underwhelming, they've been outright failures.

I think the above comments re his ability/talents but unsuitability to the league/position are accurate.

Unless we plan to spend the money on an already-identified replacement I wouldn't sell though. I have little/no faith in our ability to identify and land a replacement in time.

The lot of folk on this site who are jumping up and down about a poor substitue performance from lamela are doing my head in. Give over will you please and try giving the lad a bit of support instead of baying for his blood every time he has a poor game. It was not his fault we drew against Stoke.
