Maybe, but why should we phase out something that has become such a part of our identity as a club?

I'm not really on one side or the other. Just trying to look further into it to create debate.

Many clubs move grounds and lose part of their history.

Maybe our identity could be one of togetherness that doesn't feel the need to focus on anyone's race or religion. Tottenham is a multi-ethnic and multi-religious area and WHL is home to all on Saturdays. Don't think we need to call ourselves one thing to keep our identity.

I Cant wait for the next home game, 'YID ARMY' chants are going to go through the roof, obviously only if enough people read the story lol.

Couldnt of come at a better time.

Many clubs do, but they do that for much different reasons than are being discussed here.

I can see the thinking behind that approach, and I don't think we'll lose our identity completely, but we'll lose a part of it if we do phase it out. As you said earlier, to many, it doesn't hold religious or racial connotations any longer, but it is how they have chosen to embrace our history and continue the fighting spirit of THFC.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, most Jewish people aren't black therefore this clearly isn't a case for the society of black lawyers.

Until I hear from the society of Jewish lawyers I'm not changing anything.

Anyway I can't stay long. I've got to prepare my defence against the the society of ginger lawyers' accusations against me, before a meeting with the society of wanker lawyers. That Nicholas Witchell is going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Look at this numpty, apparently because we call ourselves "Yids", this suddenly encourages players to pull Nazi salutes, and opposition fans suddenly think to hiss, mock gas chambers and chant Anti-Semitic songs

http://www.itv.com/sport/football/article/2012-11-07/lets-get-rid-of-yid

This is laughable (author of the article):
James Appell @jamesappell
@segalmark Bosnich moronic, yes. But I think Spurs fans using it is the root of the problem, in that it encourages opponents to use it too

Do you think he'd dare use the same argument for rappers using the n word? Are they the root of racism?

They're represent ethnic minorities including asains, jews etc.....

They should just leave it, it's embarassing enough and we live in a day and age where this isn't even considered casual racism especially when Jews themselves don't have a problem with it.

Glad the club backed the fans as well.

For those asking about rappers using the N word, well yes it's the same thing but bringing it up is entirely missing the point. They're here to speak out on any wrong doing in English football not hip hop songs so whatever rappers rap about is irrelevant and nothing to do with what people sing on the terraces.

I know this is controversial but I'm going to say it anyway...I hate all Asains.

Just had and email saying my account on the BBC has been banned because the username contained the word Yid, guess they've jumped on the bandwagon too as they've never had a problem with it for the last 5 or so years since I've been using it.

Judaism is a religion, not an ethnicity.

Judaism is a religion, not a race

No it is not the same thing, one is a derogatory word describing the race of a person over which they had no choice, the other is a derogatory word describing the religion of a person over which they made a choice of their own free will.

The whole thing just stinks of a small organisation trying to make a name for themselves.

They got involved in the Clattenburg/Chelsea incident without being asked, and are about to ruin a guys career.
They made the complaint to the police, not Chelsea. Laughable really, considering these lawyers weren't on the pitch...

the society of black lawyers, is that not racist? just imagine the bullshit that would happen if there was a society of white lawyers.

It would be nice JJ87 to hear why you thought my post was dumb, asking a question deserves more then hit and run.

The Clattenburg issue is completely different, whilst I agree that the SBL shouldn't get involved unless they were asked to by one of the players, I sincerely hope the incident does ruin the guy's career. He should never have been allowed back on a football pitch after he was banned for life before. It was only because the PGMOB didn't have the balls to uphold the punishment and reduced it to an 8 month ban that he got the chance to referee (very badly) again. The sooner Clattenburg is removed from the game the better.

ha ha that's crazy. I imagine A&C is gonna get real pissed off if hundreds if not thousands of SC usernames have to get changed... One silver cloud for me. I'd get my username request approved after all these years of trying ;)

He was suspended for his business activities not for anything to do with football, he appealed against the decision and he won his case.
