??? Strange decision do not know why Kaboul was picked. It is not that I do not like him but he was out for over a year and still looks well off his best.

On Kaboul:
A captain should
1) play the majority of games, I can't see this happening due to others coming in, injuries and his general quality. He's not like he was 2 years ago and that's more of who we need as skipper.
2) lead by example, he makes too many mistakes and gets caught out too often for others to follow.
3) be someone who has the teams respect, he may well have the respect of his fellow players in the changing room- so I'm on the fence about this one.
4) BE A LEADER, maybe a leader in the dressing room but I've not seen much/any evidence so far this season.
5) Someone who will be around for a few years, someone dedicated to staying in the club for a number of years or there will be a new captain each season.
Overall I'm perplexed by this decision. Others may say this player or that player. Hugo will play the majority of games but having a GK as a captain many feel this is not a good thing. Ade personally I'm against for me he's not captain material at all. Verts- last season I was not happy with his attitude and maybe this is why he wasn't given it (contract extension doubts may have also played a part).
I'd have gone with Hugo- but what do I know. It's done now so let's get behind our new captain and support our team.

Surprised by this, i mean Poch has no doubt chosen two back-up's for when the inevitable injury recurs. I don't wish Kaboul ill by any means but looking at his record he's been out of action longer than not.

The king was captain without playing most games. I believe that was the intention with Dawson, but injuries meant he played a lot more than was expected.
Could be the same with Kaboul - he looks and speaks like he has the dressing room, but without playing Lloris will be match day captain.
Problem is that although signing a contract extension, if we do not finish higher up in the league, Lloris could leave the club.

I may have doubts, but for now I'll reserve my judgement. If he's captain, then he's captain and I'm behind it. Enough said.

The odd dodgy sub aside, this is the first significant decision poch has made which I can't understand or agree with. He's been poor so far this season looks iffy irrespective of who his central defensive partner is.

Furthermore, I'd expect none of the three on pitch leaders nominated to play Europa league, or against forest. We might well be making this up as we go along.

Well that explains why he wasn't dropped on Saturday.
Agree with posts above. A truly bizarre decision.
Obviously we don't get to see what goes on in training and the changing room but based on what we see on the pitch, def weird choice.
Edit- Opinion based on current form. If he gets back to his best, which few do after long term injuries, then fair enough. On current form though?? Not for me.

Wow. There was me thinking Fazio and Verts would be our choice CB pairing. I am hugely surprised by this.

What?? Didn't expect that I've got to say.

However, naming Hugo as vice captain could be hugely significant. He is likely to be playing every game.

Maybe there is some 'changing room politics' that we aren't aware of behind all this.

As someone else has stated, that's what's been decided and as such it gets my full support

The captain could of probably be picked through nominations and a vote of some sort. It may not of been as straight forward as the manager simpl picking a player.

Says a lot about Vertonghen over the top admiration bestowed upon him by many Spurs.

guessing ade has been made joint vice captain as they think he might perform better with some responsibility. Stroke his ego a bit?

We as supporters don't know what happens in the background i.e training and in the dressing room.

Kaboul has obviously done enough to impress MoPo and before the serious injury he was undoubtedly our best defender. The injury he had was serious and can take a long time to recover.

He's now had that time and although he's not been perfect I've seen a gradual improvement.

His promotion to permanent captain will be similar to Dawson, I think he'll be in the main Club Captain which doesn't guarantee you a starting place but gives you recognition for your commitment and service for the club.

Actually I do see Kaboul making progress as far as playing-time goes; last season he missed many games due to niggling injuries; this season he has been largely injury-free.
Now hopefully he will gradually find his form again.
If Pochetto can see this then he might be the right choice for Captain.

Very early days, but thus far Poch has got a lot more right than wrong, so guess we give it the thumbs up, and hope he has pulled off a managerial masterstroke!
