Hard to look too far past our current team. Ginola had one great season - Dazza second only to Giggs in terms of assists.

Has to be:

--------------------------------------------------------Friedel----------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------Carr------------------ King--------------------- Dawson--------------------- BAE--------------------

--------------------------------------------------------Carrick---------------------------------------------------------------

---------------------------------------VDV--------------------------------------- Modric------------------------------------

------------Ginola------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bale------

--------------------------------------------------------Berbatov-------------------------------------------------------------

Bench:
Robinson or Gomes- (when they were on form)
Walker
Parker
Lennon/Anderton (very close call)
Sheringham
Defoe/Keane (Also close call)
Klinsmann

That team is frightening. Defence mabye not the strongest but could do a job.
Carrick/Modric/VDV pulling the strings with Bale and Ginola on the wings crossing to Berbatov and an on-running VDV WOW.

Then if we are struggling we could bring on the likes of Lennon,Sheringham,Klinsmann etc.

Just shows though we've not really had great goalkeepers or defenders, it is only recently that we have started to have better defenders. We have had a range of very good strikers but not kept any of them for long enough, Adebeyor would also be close to getting into this team.

We have also had some truly world-class players, most notably: King and then the whole of the midfield and Berbatov.
For me the players who have really stood out over the years were:
-King in defence, a class above.
-Carrick, he was on a different level to his team-mates when he played for us such a talent, beautiful to watch.
-Modric, has pulled the strings for a few years.
-Ginola/Bale, both of them as wingers have been devastating at times.
-Klinsmann/Berbatov, both were incredible for a few years then buggered off.

Ginola.......Modric.. Carrick Bale

Was close between Berbatov and Sheringham, maybe I should have given Teddy the nod and perhaps Anderton should have been right wing ahead of Ginola who played left....it also seems most fans would go for Robbo in goal.

I am also not sure about my selection of Carrick in the CM but seeing as I have a lot of work to do I haven't given this as much thought as I probably should have when starting a thread lol

I'll go with:

----------------Thorstvedt
Carr -----Campbell---King-------Bale
----------Modric---------Sandro ----------
VDV----------Sheringham------Ginola
-----------------Klinsmann--------------

Anderton Carrick Parker Ginola

Klinsmann

Goalkeepers: Robinson when on form was class but he's never got back to that, Thorsvedt was very early in my serious Spurs supporting career, Gomes again has been brilliant and crap as was the legend that was Walker.

Defence: Carr was a strong contender but Walker is taller and stronger so I preferred him. Ziege was a wing-back more suited to a 3-5-2 so not really an orhodox left-back in a 4-4-2. Shoutt out to the legend Edinburgh lol.

Midfield: was tempted by Howells as he was underrated and Sandro is also going to be top class but Carrick edged it. Bale still has some developing to do before he can be placed over the gorgeous french one. Lennon is also a fave of mine but Anderton on top of his game was world-class. Just a shame injuries ruined things for him a lot.

Forwards: we've had some cracking forwards in Keane and Berbatov but Sheringham was a top top player who also made the no.9 in front of him better so he had to get the nod - better IMO then VDV too.

Thor (awesome name. your argument is invalid)
Carr Mabbut King BAE (Yes Campbell is not here on bitterness alone)
Ginola Modders Freund Bale (most are obvious, but I had to give a shout to Freund. Every team needs a Freund) :D
Sheringham - Berbatov

Keller
Carr - King - Campbell - Ekotto
Ginola - Modric - Parker - Bale
Berbatov - Klinsmann
Explained
Goalkeeper is fairly tricky because no one stands out but Keller was pretty reliable. The tendency is to favour present players because they are fresh in the mind but Walker has only done one season while Carr was brilliant for a few seasons. King and Campbell picks itself as much as we like to berate the latter. Ginola played on the left but so does Bale apparantly... Modric and Parker formed a formidable midfield partnership last season and I have no doubt in my mind that last seasons team was the best we've had in the PL. Klinsmann has legendary status and Berbatov was the most awesome player I have seen in a Tottenham shirt live. His performance against Bolton where he was MOTM despite not scoring says it all.

All 3 are great. But let's not dismiss Robbie. Keano nearly earned a testimonial and had over 100 goals for us. He was a very good player and deserves a little love. Sure the Liverpool move soured many of us, but Keano deserves mention here.

Fair enough. He's arguably our 4th best striker of the era, though I've never been a fan of his.

No one having Sullivan in their first choice XI? I only go back as far as 95/96 in watching Spurs, but I haven't seen a keeper have a season as good as his 2000/01 season at any time from 1995 to 2012.
