Gomes. I think he could possibly be the difference between a top 6 finish, and 11th place again.

Pavlyuchenko. How messed up would we be if we hadn't been able to close that deal. No disrespect to Bent, but it is a huge relief. Hope they can combine well together, if called to do so.

If he does as well as he should, he should rival a fit Ledley King as the best "signing" this summer.

Gomes, Gomes and Gomes not only has he been a very good player but even Ramos has said he's a good influence in the dressing room and I think he is the one to help the guys forget the Berba saga, in the games I've seen him play so far his communication with Ledley and Woody has been fantatic.
I would have no problems making Gomes or Woody vice captain as Jenas is too inconsistent.

My favourite signing has to be Gomes. I thought that GK was the top priority going into the summer and while it is very early days it looks like we might have found a very good one.

On performances so far I voted Gomes. I love Luka though and I have great hopes for Pav!

Pav cos I can banter with the Russian mates about him. Gomes has looked on terrific form though. Love little Luka too.

Modric all the way. Hope those c**ts man u dont' come sniffing.

They'll definitely come in for him if he turns out to be a success at Spurs, and we will sell him, too.

On topic, Gomes is my favourite signing. Straight away he impressed me, an important signing and a top one at that. He brings confidence to the defense, plus he seems like a very good catcher of the ball (unlike Robbo).

This has been the best transfer window that I can remember since the summer we signed Ardiles and Villa etc. before last season I said we wouldn't chal;lenge the top 4 mainly due to our lack of top drawer creativity, secondly due to our defensive frailty - mainly Dawson and Robinson but also Chimbonda. I also said on various other occassions that our strikers - particularly keane - wre a liability. A few others understood what I meant with Keane. He regularly chipped in with 15 or so leage goals, but, IMO, cost at least that every season. He is a bottler who plays primarily for himself. OK if you are Ronaldo but he is not. his assit rate was absoloutely abismal. So as far as I'm concerned 20 million for him is jiztastically unvelieveable. I know he will score goals wherever he plays but we've had all he has to offer and frankly I'd had enough. This is not sour grapes, check out any ratings thread I've posted in or other Keane related posts. Tricky little fucker but flawed.

My summer started with signing of the player I wanted more than any other player in world football. Modric. I saw in him everything that we needed. He is a footballer. A proper footballer. Intelligent, technically superb, busy, constantly scheming. He is also just a kid who will get even better.

Then we signed Dos santos. Another footballer. technically superb. Bags of potential and the sort of wild card we need. can play RW. LW and for me his best potential will come as a No.10 type. I really hope he gets a chance to feed off Pavyluchenko. Could be a sweet pairing.

Then we signed Gomes. This fella could be the best keeper we have had since the big irish fella. A keeper that commands his box. Just what we needed. Experienced at the highest level.

Bentley. The tottenham boy (?). I think he was over valued and over rated (just like Beckham) but what he will bring is options and his signing was validated a little more for me by the signing of Pavlyuchenko who is a bit of a shearer/sheringham hybrid. I also like his confidence.

Pavlyuchenko. If you judged this fella purely on his euro2008 you'd be a bit nonplus'd. Do not be under any misapprehension. We have signed a great striker here. he has a bit of pace, technical ability and most importantly can finish with left, right and head.
In terms of replacing Berbatov I spoke of the difficulty of getting in a striker of his vision and ability but said if we could get in a striker with 75% ability but 100% effort we would be better off. I believe we could have with Pav. Hope I'm right.

Corluka. Really couldn't figure this one out. Mostly couldn't figure out why he wanted to leave a guaranteed firt team spot to come to a team where it wouldn't be guaranteed. Seems that he is apparently a CB turned RB, in which case he is likely to see plenty of football. And again, he is another guy signed who is technically very good.

My least favourite loss this window was Malbranque. I'd liked him for years and was chuffed when we bought him. keane for 20 million was unbeliveable business. Berbatov was always gone and for 31 million I was chuffed. 50 million for a bottler and a reluctant genius was fine by me.

Modric, Dos Santos, Gomes, Bently, Pavlyuchemko & Corluka were more than I would have dared hope for.

This team may take some bedding, even a season, but I'm more than happy to wait. I see it as football foreplay.

I have not been this excited about watching us sine 1981.
