Lloris
Walker Fazio Verts Davies
Bentaleb Delph
Lamela Eriksen Kono/Ayew
Kane

W/ Moreno and Kramaric also arriving.

Realistic, but I think would feature a significant improvement nonetheless. Would give us far more energy and stretch, thereby not only opening up things for the entirety of the team, but especially for Eriksen and Lamela to coexist and both pull strings for the others.

My starting eleven would change depending on the opposition. All acquisitions with mind towards realistic options.

For a side that comes at us:

Lloris
Walker - Fats - Verts - Davies
Mason - Stambouli
Lamela - Eriksen - Chadli
Kane
For a side content to sit back:

Lloris
Walker - Dier - Verts - Rose
Delph - Bentaleb
Townsend - Eriksen - Konoplyanka
Kane

With of course all wingers and Pritchard on deck in case things are not working out, especially for those sides content to sit back.

The rationale for first one is it gives the two most defensive wingers we have aside from Lennon (who I think will depart), and more guile in threading spaces. Chadli seems to do very well in the games in which we have space, but goes missing in the ones we have to fight through a compact box. Fats and Verts have developed a strong pairing that has fared well even against strong sides willing to come at us. Stambouli has the best tackling rate of any of our midfielders, and he has massively improved of late, including with his dispersal. Davies is better defensively than Rose.

For a side looking to stay back and counter, I think we need the pace of Walker and Rose to eliminate counters and Dier I think has a bit more pace and has an extraordinary ability to recover from any mistakes or catch a play in behind. I love seeing that in a footballer, that "pissed" sense when he's been beaten, and then will and belief to rectify the situation. Huge fan of Dier. He also looks to get forward and get involved in the midfield more than Fazio. Delph would give more aggression to physically move the ball forward against these sides and give them less time to compact their box. Bentaleb is our most accurate passer in midfield to find options. Townsend and Konoplyanka give that pace and aggression that can also get the ball forward quickly enough before the defense can organize, and the confidence and dribbling abilities to run directly at opposition defenders and induce chaotic movement for others to exploit.

This is the side I'd like to see become our first 11

-----------------------------------------Lloris
--------------------Walker----Dier/Faz ---- Verts---- Rose/Davies
---------------------------Mason-----------Stambo
----------------------Lamela ------ Eriksen------Chadli/Pritch
---------------------------------------Kane

although i like the mason/bentaleb combo i still think they shouldnt be starting together vs every opposition. andros vs erik is another one that's up in the air as I want both of them to succeed and they both offer different things. I dont want us to buy kono because i'd like us to place some faith in pritch and use him coming to the end of this season.

I suppose it's slightly more realistic that the team you put out earlier on this page :D

Nice summary! Agree on your player thoughts.

Out of the starting 11 i think Lamela's place is the one that jumps out at me as being uncertain. I'd suspect he would lose out if we signed an Ings, Ayew, Rodriguez until he was more consistent.

Follow up question could we compete at the same level if we replaced;
Kaboul with Veljkovic
Naughton with Yedlin
Capoue with Winks/Onomah
Lennon with Pritchard

Soldado/Adebayor is the position I'm not sure we could replace with youth this window but we could cope if we did lose any of those 4 above IMO

Same level, yes. But whether we'd push on or not, I don't believe so. I think we need one or two acquisitions to have a chance at satisfying any of our ambitions this season, despite how excellent our own youth products have been this season.

Lloris
Walker Fazio Vertonghen Davies
Schneiderlin Dembele
Lamela Eriksen Konoplyanka
Kane

Vorm, Chirchies, Rose, Capoue, Mason, Chadli, Ings

we still have Yedlin, Dier, Bentaleb, Townsend, Adebayor

so selling Naughton, Kaboul, Paulinho, Lennon and Soldado shouldn't be problem

Would prefer keeping Soldado as I wasn't impressed with Adebayor reaction to Eriksen goal, it's seem he lost his love for the club or football, but selling Soldado provide better financial sense.

Don't think we'll sign anyone unfortunately, nor will too many leave.

Ideally we sell:
-Capoue,Adebeyor and Naughton

and bring in:
Konoplyanka and a Striker.

Who knows...
