Sebastian Bassong, a young centre back who played in a diabolical defensive unit last season for a team that were deservedly relegated, then joins us and slots into a defence without the number one goal keeper and without a settled centre back partner, and yet performs admirably under these circumstances.

Modric, gives us the privelige to always have the best player on the pitch in our team.

Spot on! SO hope he'll be back soon. Worthy mentions for King, Wilson and Defoe too. Oh, and Bennie, Bassong and Crouch - and Lennon.

Now we see why we're in the position we're in!

I don't think anyone has been consistently brilliant, even the likes of Lennon, Defoe, Palacios etc have been average to poor in a few games. This makes our current position even more impressive though IMO, imagine what we can do when everyone is playing at top form.

I would say Modric has been player of ther season so far, as until his injury he was probably the most impressive player in each game I can rmember.

Poll would have been handy for this.

King for me though. Without training and playing consistently well makes him an easy enough choice for me.

Defoe, Lennon, Wilson and Modric have also been good so far.

I think there are 3 or 4 guys that deserve praise, King and Bassong in defense, Palacios in midfield and Defoe up front. I would include Modric but missing a number of games and not being fantastic in every one he played rules him out in my mind, also if he was holding us together we wouldn't be winning without him, granted we are much better and more creative without him but that doesn't always equal wins. (this is coming from a huge Modric fan, my favorite spurs player and the name on the back of my jersey)

If we have all of Modric, Palacios and King playing then I think we have a chance against anyone. One of these three will almost certainly be our overall player of the season. However, so far I'd go for either King or Bassong. King is a soldier and a truly exceptional player for us. Bassong has come straight in and impressed with solid performances, commetment and hes been the continuity in the centre of defence for us. The experience playing alongside King for (hopefully) a few seasons will set him up nicely to take Ledley's place in the future.

I presume we are talking Player of the Season rather than Year (2009). As such Modric was easily our best player before his injury. Ledley, as ever, has been consistently good but I have to agree that Bassong having played throughout probably deserves the accolade of most impressive player so far. I hope such early season thoughts don't jinx him because with Daws and Woody coming back I hope he rises to the challenge of holding onto his place...

Wilson Palacios, we are a different team with him holding the midfield together, he's agression is vital, without him we are not as comfortable. He's the best Centre Midfielder we've had in a very long time, I think just having his presence on the pitch helps the other players.

My player of the season so far (hence not necessarily the best player we have) is Benoit Assou-Ekotto. He has, rather surprisingly, been one of our most composed players this season. When we've been missing key defenders, especially the games when we missed King, Benny has been looked the most composed of the defenders we've had. His timing of tackles has been excellent this season too and he hasn't been guilty of conceding possession too cheaply.

Also he covers a hell of a lot of ground in a game - even for a full-back.

Can't wait for Luka to come back though.

unless we play one of the top 4

Which commentator was it that said he felt Modric was the best attacking player in the league before his injury thus far this season. He doesn't have the luxury of being able to fade in and out like some others as we need so much to go through him.

But Bassong has been extremely impressive thus far and looked a really good signing.
