KWP
CCV
Beriche

I worry that Troy Parrott is heading down this route
Most do, in other clubs as well. All three of those players are some of our absolute most successful youth players. If Parrott ends up like that, he's done good. Could end up higher, but could end up much lower.

None of them, because the attrition rate is so high.

That's not to say I don't wish them all the best, but I just wait and see how the chips fall.

Yeah sorry, you are answering the question. I'm just being pedantic because it annoys me that a lot of people on here, including youth observers, have unrealistic expectations of academy players. Sorry about that.

Souleymane Coulibaly when we signed him after he won the golden boot at the U17 WC, thought he was going to be a monster. Also Nathan Oduwa after he completely took the piss when he went on loan to rangers

You're bang on. I watched a lot of youth football at one time and remember players that caught my eye like John Piercey and Jamie Bunn who simply didn't make it. Kevin Watson was decent and played some first team games. Adam Smith was one I thought was going to be top, top draw and he's done ok. Mark Wright the reality TV bloke was a decent teenage player and reading stuff on him lately he seems to regret not applying himself when a youngster. Who knows who's going to make it - those formative years are so important for anyone in any job.

To be fair to Yeates he’s been playing at a very good level for the best part of 15 years, that’s twice the average that most professional footballers last and he’s played mostly in the Championship and League 1, done very well all in all, I would say a very successful graduate. Most will be lucky to have half a career as successful as Yeates,

Tbh i lost track of his career after we let him go so didn't know that. Bit like Johnny Jackson who also had a good career.

I also really liked Kieran Mckenna before an injury ruined his career. Destined for big things in management though and currently one of oles top coaches i believe.

Kevin Watson was great at Reading, I have never seen anyone switch the play as good as he used to do while he was there.

I don't get how anyone can put KWP in this thread, he is a good PL RB, his career was never going to take off with Poch at the helm

No worries bud. We have so many players that make it at other teams. Can't wait to see Adam Smith in PL next season at Brentford. I still love watching KWP for Southampton

I’ve coached with him, top guy and very knowledgeable coach. Was a good player and like you say injury ruined his career, he got involved playing in some sessions and was incredible even with his injury

Tell you who I thought wouldn’t cut it with us, Josh Onomah, you never know right but when watching him just felt that he didn’t quite have what was needed to play football at that level.

Seemed to do ok for Fulham in championship for a bit.

Miller was never going to make it here, but I thought he'd have a good solid career in the game. He looked like he might tbh. On Oduwa, I think he needs to take some responsibility, he's been given chances, really good chances but no discipline in his play.

I agree with you entirely on Edwards, whenever I watched that was the impression I got. Bags of ability on the ball, but it always felt he was at the periphery of games. Contrast that with Shashoua who while less talented seemed to have a great personality in his play, and it wouldn't surprise me if Shashoua ends up having a better career at the end, he's had a decent season in La Segunda.

I think you're slightly misremembering with Capoue, he played under Poch, he was much better here than some people remember, you're probably thinking of the 6-4 against Reading under Ramos I'm not sure if there was such a game with Sherwood, but ultimately his first season ended with injury, a bit like it started. In fact when not injured in his first season he tended to start, I genuinely thought we had a player in our hands with Capoue, a bit inconsistent but a lot of promise as well. He started the first 11 games under Poch, his career ended here when he was part of that split between players and was ostracized from the squad, like Kaboul and others. But he largly did very well at Watford and I wasn't surprised to see him in a UEFA level side like Villareal.

i remember seeing Shash come on for his first youth team appearance he was so small and he scored after a few minutes - as far as Capoue it wasn't the silly fist team game it was a reseve game or U21 game at the training ground and I am sure it was Reading and it stood out as unusual becase Sherwood coated him in public and that was so unusual I thought he left soon after that but I could easily be wrong. I thought Capoue was a dreadful player to be honest

Danny hill was just unbelievable, thought he was nailed on to be an absolute star, watched the youth team a lot when he played and he was different class, watched his debut I think against qpr and seemed totally lacking in confidence and had a nothing career

Jamie Slabber and Lee Barnard could’ve been our attack for a decade ?

That said... we had these guys and Cameron Lancaster, all threaten to break through before Kane actually came along and did. Maybe Gower - Carroll - Winks means that the next going best midfielder we produce will turn out to be the second coming of Hoddle...
