This is interesting from Rafa Hoenigstein, one of the few sports journos I have much time for:

German journalist Raphael Honigstein told ESPN today, "He's [Şahin] got one problem, Luka Modric, the deal is all but done however, both clubs are pushing for Şahin to be included in the deal.

"He's made them both aware that he's not interested in a move to Spurs, he's quite categorical, so they are quite out of the picture as far as he's concerned."

That goes against the supposition that AVB knocked the Sahin deal on the head.

Doesn't mind Liverpool but catagorically not Spurs? Isn't Honigstein a Liverpool fan or is that Duarte the other guy they get on football weekly?

why so adamant that he doesnt want to join us though. strange.

would Liverpool want him anyway, now theyve sign Joe Allen?

I wouldn't place too much stock in what the Journalist has said, no player categorically would rule out any side.

Yeah agree there, just found it bizarre that he is supposedly not interested in coming to us but is interested in a move to a team we have finished above for years

on the grey foxes information - a striker as well as ade by saturday?
No "a striker other than Ade" and just to clear things up, even if done not necessary ready for Newcastle, but this week is what I heard, that could be tomorrow or Saturday. Sorry don't do time lines.

I don't agree with this. There were quotes last week from Sahin saying he would join us and that Mourinho had spoke highly of AVB.

I think Sahin would have gone elsewhere if Madrid weren't hoping to offload him onto us. AVB clearly wants Moutinho and that is what is stopping that deal happening.

ITK suggesting we will sign M'vila and another striker other than Ade this week.... Could this lend some credibility to the story doing the rounds about M'vila and Niang....
Or it could just be a case of 2+2=5....

Heard Defoe rumoured to Sunderland, maybe end up with striking options of Ade, LD and Niang, with Kane and Coulibaily adding depth. Not sure thats wise, great for tge future, but a big ask for the here and now, do highly unlikely.

If Honigstein is saying he won't come then I would rate that over any ITK. While he may not know our club, and certainly has no affinity for it, he's knows the players from the Bundesliga. And he has personal relationships with many, but also has enough relationships with other German journo's who have these relationships. That's is from the horse's mouth type information. And I bet it is why we are taking a look at M'Vila right now.

Exactly what i was thinking. Do we believe Mr Honigstein or The ITK who said AVB doesn't want Sahin.

If its true maybe he wanted to join initially which is what JJ alluded then when Avb knocked it on the head he wasn't keen on coming to a club where the manager didn't fancy him and it was the chairman pushing the deal.

For those that have been placed on suicide watch, can we all remember that this is not Football Manager and is the real world. If you take the facts that we have had the Euros, Olympics this summer, FFP coming in and add the general economic climate it is not suprising it is difficult to do business, it does not mean we are not trying.
If you then factor in that AVB is fairly new and wanted to see what he had got before moving, which is a sensible approach then you have where we are, which is better than the City who even with their wealth and the promise of CL can't do any business as yet.
I too, would have preferred early business and two world class strikers done and dusted by end of June, but being realistic and knowing that we are trying to do exciting deals places me a long way from the ledge of despair.

Those of us with a brain realize all of this.

Thanks for the reassurance though.

Were those Sahin quotes that had some mention of Liverpool as a small club or summin' the other day confirmed as false? They did seem a bit hard to believe.

No that's ridiculous of course, there's no reason at all to prefer Liverpool over us for a loan move, we should have every advantage over them here. "Categorically won't join Spurs" - ridiculous.

Duarte is Liverpool. Rafa is Bayern and Bayern only.
