Yeah, none of Joe Cole, Arjen Robben, Wesley Sneijder, Mesut Ozil or Eden Hazard had success under Jose. He ruined them and the world never got to enjoy their flair and creativity because they were just too talented for Mourinho to pick.

I'm pretty sure all of those were already established internationals when Jose started working with them.

Are there any examples of young flair players that he either brought through the academy or signed from a lower tier club?

Reported valuations and ‘bids’ for said players:

Foyth - £15m
KW-Peters - £15m
CC-Vickers - £5m
Rose - £5m
Amos - £2m?

£40m is quite easily attainable for said players.
These look about right to me - Amos will go for more than £2m unless it's another loan (Pritchard for example, went for £8m to Norwich.)

You could potentially add Aurier and Lamela as another £15m each. So I'd say it's closer to £75m along with the loan fees for Skipp, Clarke and Parrot which are probably worth £1m each.

What difference does that make? The poster I quoted mentioned how Mourinho prefers less talented work horses to Ndombele, who to my understanding is also a current international, no younger than Cole, Robben, Ozil, Hazard, who were all 22/23 when Jose got hold of them.

There’s a rhetoric on this site that Mourinho ruins talent. He doesn’t. He’s had failures with talented attacking players, and successes too. Like more top managers.

I thought we were talking about Eze as we are in the Eze thread and was just curious if there are any examples of Jose working with younger flair players who aren't as established as the ones you mentioned.

I don't think Jose has any issues working with flair players as such but might be more risk averse to someone who is a work in progress.

All of the players you listed were ready made first team players so were less of a gamble.

Hopefully he perseveres with Ndombele as his potential is massive.

(I may have certain posters on ignore so don't always get the whole picture!!!)

I do accept that there aren’t many examples of him improving young inexperienced flair players. Rashford is probably the only one I can easily recall as he’d only just broken through and played a handful of games under Van Gaal.

I think when judging Jose's history of youth development, we've got to consider the jobs he's had, the remit he'd have been given and the time spent at the club. The expectations of the head coach at Ajax or Dortmund is always going to be different to that of Real and Inter, for example. He's never really been in a job when you'd expect him to put emphasis on developing flair players. He's always been about winning trophies now. If anything, he's been about taking flair players, like Joe Cole and taking lots of the flair out of them and turning them into cogs of a winning machine.

This is a good interview with Joe Cole, about how Mourinho changed his game and how it actually inspired Joe to want to get into coaching.

The Mourinho influence part starts at about 2.45:

His friends call him 'Ezeer and he is the main geezer
And he'll vibe up the place like no other man could
He's refined, sublime, he makes you feel fine
Though very much maligned and misunderstood
But if you know 'Ezeer he's a real crowd pleaser
He's ever so good, he's Eberechi Eze Goode

What about an Eagles song?

Well,I’m travelling from my abode , on my way to Loftus Road
Got 7 transfers on my mind
Six that Levy won’t buy me
Money seems unlikely
But there’s one that really blows my mind.

I’ll take Eze,I’ll take Eze
Daniel please don’t blow it now or I’ll go crazy.

My Palace supporting colleague seems pretty excited about them signing Eze, sounds like there's been some positive news on that front today stemming from this:

It was also retweeted by the Guardian journo that covers Palace closely.

I think the player will be keen on making a move sooner than later, which doesn't mesh well with Jose's supposed stance on him.

Herc says words to the effect of he’s ours if we want him. Think it’s in the daily thread.
Simultaneous update from the great man as I was posting the above.

Edited to remove at Hercs request.

looks like he’s not coming

There's just never been any other links, it's never felt to me personally that he's someone we've seriously been after. Especially when you consider we have Dele, a young talent who maybe now can't even get in the starting 11 and Ndombele, a record signing who also can't get into the starting 11.

I'd be really surprised if we sign any player who occupies those areas of the pitch without most likely Ndombele being shifted out.

I think Jose wants to strengthen the first eleven. Eze is not ready to do that (although some on here don’t get it ? ? ) Eze is for two years down the road. Jose wants quality now and if he only has a set figure for all his transfer dealings he would rather Eze went elsewhere in order to get his wish list.
