If this is true, it does sound to me like we’re trying to be creative with our funds and maybe trying to get a player in a position we need/want with funds that would have already been financed and accounted for. i.e. Send back Gedson from his loan and adjust the agreement transfer price to be adjusted and in place for ask Carlos Vinicius instead. Meaning we wouldn’t not necessarily need to sell anyone to create the funds, and letting Gedson go, doesn’t take up another non homegrown spot. Seems really weird we would be interested in this guy and go in for the money quoted that they’re wanting for him.

Benfica President is demanding 60m euros according to reports here in Lisbon - Mendes feels it's an unrealistic fee.

The player is currently with his team in Greece, they play PAOK tomorrow

If this is the case then there’s no blaming Levy... a backup striker or starter I wouldn’t want to spend £50m on an unproven talent... onto the next target baldy

Would this potentially make him cup tied for the EL? If so surely that would have a massive impact on a potential transfer?

Tvi24 ate6 saying Spurs only offered 30m euros but Benfica want 60m.

Some more details....

Benfica seriously need to reduce their wage bill and get players off their payroll otherwise they won't balance the accounts.

Perhaps this is why Jose is confident, maybe Mendes/Mourinho know the fee will drop. Mendes knows the market afterall and he does have the ear of people in high places.

Another game of chicken then. I don't think 40, 50 or 60 is worthy in this market just to be clear.

No I don't believe it does. Found that it says you can have one player per club who has played in both Europa/CL.

He can play for two clubs in the EL.

Surely this mega-fee stuff is going to be temporary?

It's like everyone has raised inflation so a pint of milk or a loaf of bread is £100. Yes, some idiots will pay it, but in the medium term you'll just have no demand and lots of players wanting to move. The clubs being greedy are going to end up causing a world where they end up getting nothing for players because they'll sign short term contracts and just move for free, essentially picking up transfer-fee sized signing bonuses.

Weird that its gone quiet. Especially with all the big ITKs inferring that he is indeed the one under the radar.

Such a weird transfer window

Ah ok, these rules are never straightforward. That said at the prices mooted it does sound like a non-starter.

Alright show of hands, was I the only who didn't think Sorloth didn't look too bad considering the relative price? :cautious:

If we can get Vinicius for a cut fee then fantastic but I didn't see much different between the two in my expert tube analysis. If anything Sorloth looked the better finisher

I thought that Covid was going to kill it off but then Watkins went for 28 million.

There'll be a few foreign billionaires trying to 'take advantage' of the market, which puts the other teams under pressure. It'll either protect that bubble, or pop it.

60m is never happening and just them sticking a number out to see if anyone gets close. They are probably hoping for 40m but something around 30m-35m euros will get him imo.

I guess the way they consider it is, is the value to elevate my squad worth it if it keeps me in the prem or makes me 50-100 million in Champions League revenue. I think aslong as the difference in value that success on the pitch brings, we'll keep seeing these mega deals. Some clubs will suffer for it though.

In my un expert opinion none of them strike me as being worth north of £25mill - they all have question marks against them, some are in their mid 20's with limited experience. The £20mill for Wilson is where we should be aiming for. Or you go above that and buy the potential (Daka, Edouard) ...

Also if Mendes want to get his man out of Benfica, he'll make it happen.
