Of course you are petal.

Just don't take it to heart so much.

And give, whoever our new striker is, a chance. They are undoubtedly better than no-one at all.
Still wondering how he will get around the issue of a work permit what with not being capped by Brazil. Were murmurs Wolves tried for him last summer but couldn't push ahead due to the WP issue.
All they need to do is look at Harry's injury record and they will see that Vinicus will 100%, get adequate game time.

Meltdown incoming for those who don't like what they see :sneaky:
People have a right to be a little wary. The club has done wonderful transfer work before but also done some stinking stuff.

There are a few flags here. A Mendes client, not particularly highly rated as a youngster and even settled late into a new position.

He's also only had one strong season.

Does he really have the reputation to be valued at 60m euros.

But at the end of the day its clear as day he's a Jose player and that fills me with positivity.

I just hope we're not overpaying for another Joelinton.

And remember Jose identified Fred at a similar fee and reputation.

If you're interested in watching him play an uncut half of preseason football against English opposition, here you go:

Note: His performance is pretty meh IMO. He was dispossessed quite a lot due to some clumsy touches. He does play some clever one-two balls though and made some nice cuts in the box that his teammates failed to connect.

Big, strong, ok pace and an eye for goal. And he's LEFT footed- that's a big deal imo as all of our attackers prefer coming onto their right (Son, Kane, Lucas, Bergwijn). This guy would give us great balance.

Very good point.

I doubt, like most in this thread, he knows much about him at all.
Exactly the point I was attempting to make! I'll admit, I've never seen him play. I like to think I take a keen interest in the game across the globe, but I'm certainly no expert on everything!

Jaysus...hard to take many positives out of that. As you said, some decent movement in the box (at times) and a bit of hold up play. Wasn't the most high-energy performance you'll ever see. To be fair, not a lot of quality on display, and the game was being played at half pace. I'm not against the signing, and I trust Mou and team to identify what we need, but this will not assuage the doubters.

Oh and suddenly seeing Jan in Benfica kit was a small stab to the heart. :(

It’s a friendly.

Fred.

We said the same about Poch.

Well established that Mourinho didn’t want Fred, Fred was pushed on him by Woodward.

Got my hopes up with Edouard so this is quite underwhelming. But he has the potential to be a good signing in the long run. It’s just that we have been linked with more exciting strikers and all the positive itk about an ”under the radar” striker that is good got me thinking it was something more special. But will not write him off, could be good.

We don't know how good Vinicius could be yet. Nor do we know how good Edouard could be.

All we can say for certain is that Vinicius fits the prototype of an ideal Mourinho striker far more than Edouard does. That instantly elevates him above Edouard in terms of Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.

I've seen this guy play a few times and he's very much a Mourinho striker in the mould of Drogba or Milito. He can bully defenders, which Kane doesn't do anymore really for whatever reason.

My main worry - and it's not a reason not to sign him - is that he's a very much a team-goal player, and our midfield and other forwards really need to step up and create more chances and get forward quickly in support. But that's been a problem for years now and remains so regardless of whoever we buy as striker.

We badly need either another creative mid or for Ndombele to turn things around.

I would never judge off a friendly. Fitness is off, new signings being bedded in, potentially new tactics/formations and one or two players may be wary of injuries prior to transfers. Remember when Darren Bent banged them in for fun one pre-season? Then he could barely hit a barn door when it mattered.

I guess the only issue is folks wanted a Klinsmann but look to be getting an Armstrong. Don’t forget that they BOTH got good hauls for us.
I’m happy to give him a chance.

Wasn't Bent our top goalscorer that season?? I may be wrong, but I think he's always got a lot of unjustified flak. Like criticism for his link up play. Bent was paid to score goals. He scored goals. What's the problem??
