Obviously the aim is to win absolutely everything. We have to be playing Champions league next season. Realistically a top 6 finish and winning the UEFA cup would be a great season...

I understand why a number of people are being realistic in this thread, but I hate this no winning attitude, it what is fundementally wrong with the club and has been since the likes of Bill Nick, Burtinshaw and possibly Venables were managers. If you start off with lowering your expectations and ambitions then you are always going to be satisfied with second best. I have supported this club for over 50 years and have put a bet on us to win the league every season since I have been old enough to bet, you will note that in that 50 years we have never won the bloody thing, third a few times and very close on a couple of occasions, but until the club changes the its mind set we won't come close. The manager, players and fans should be expecting to win things until it is mathmatically impossible to do so.

I hate the attitude of it being OK to be also rans. Anything can happen in a season, look at recent seasons Man City winning the league at the death a couple of seasons ago, Chelsea winning the CL despite being complete shite for most of it and Liverpool winning the CL after being 3-0 down at half time, its all about mental toughness and a we can do attitude, which I am afraid this club from top to bottom has lost, Bill Nick will be turning in his grave.

Yes I want to see us play attractive football, but I am always happier when we win how ever it happens. Luck will always play a part in a long season and any cup competition it could be the way the fixture list pans out, a referee decision at a key point in a game or an easy draw in the cups, but you still have make your own luck by challenging decisions, making chances, playing as a unit and expecting to win.

I could have used a lot of cliches like Bill's "glory" speech and I apologise for going off on a bit of a rant, but I spend thousands every season to watch my team win not to be happy with finishing 6th. So I am saying I want us to aim for the double, neigh the quadrouple, because as my dear old Mum used to say "If you don't want to shit get off the pan"

Aim for Top 4 of course but the reality is that it is going to be a slow transition season...i just want Poch to bed down his philosophy and the team to start playing attractive attacking football and winning....i'll take anywhere from a 6th to 8th place and hope for two good cup runs

6th, some exciting football and a trophy would be a successful season for me.

However, I want us to go all out for the EL as I:

1) think we have a decent chance of winning it
2) believe that it's the only way we'll get CL football.

If we win the EL, and play some good football, I'll be delighted tbh.

The way I see it. Well said. (y)

Yeah, but foxy, look how poch had s'ton playing...that's gonna happen here - that ethos - with the resources we have and the most exciting part of that is he will demand 100% from the players for 100% of the 90+ mins, no exceptions. He demands that because he wants to win every game - positively. Absolutely going for it.

The squad will not be exactly as he wants it this season and it's his first season but already we can see big advances in style of play, cohesion and tempo, from the second half of our first pre-season game - when we had players on who got what he wanted - after only a few weeks.

We will play attractive football with high tempo, pressing and 100% commitment to positively win games.

I'm happy with letting that lot roll and seeing where it takes us in his firsts season.

Come the end of next summer's window - where I fully expect him to bring in the final pieces to his jigsaw - I'll probably be a lot more weighted towards certain achievements.

I simply can't do that now, but I do know poch will give absolutely everything to win every single game and that attitude is enough for me this season. With this manager, ambition comes as a default. He will want to win the lot and will aim to do that. I absolutely take that as written with him.

There's absolutely no point in loading on expectations though at this extremely early stage.

But I'm super positive about where we're going and think we're gonna have a very good season.

That way I don't end up in psyche ward! :D

Finish anywhere between 4th-7th....hoping for fourth obviously but not expecting.

Just because you don't expect it doesn't mean you don't aim for it though.

Exactly this.

We should be aiming for top 4, but not necessarily expecting it.

Realistically there are 5 teams who are likely to massively outspend us this summer and who generally have much bigger resources than us, so 6th is a realistic expectation and Poch should only really be judged against that.

But we should still have the ultimate goal of trying to finish top 4.

This is my problem though, understand the realism on here, but aim for 4th and probably end up 6th or 7th aim for the top and we might just get 4th. I won't be judging Poch if we don't achieve/win anything, but for christ sake lets go for it from the off.

And there's no doubt that's exactly what he'll be aiming to do; it's just masochistic, as a fan, to expect that this season.

Like you said, people seem to be totally overlooking lollers, manure, scum, chels, city, everton for some strange reason and just magically plonking us in the top four come the end of the season.

We've hired a manager, not magician.

Yeah as Mauricio said himself, the aim this season should be to ingrain the philosophy into the team and get us playing in the right manner first and foremost. Then we can look at targets.

I think anything between 4th and 6th is realistic, i'd be disappointed if we're below Everton though.

Why? Is our goal to reach champions league football or to finish fourth in the premier league?

If it's champions league football then winning the Europa league is the best way to do it, it's only 17 games for us (i think).

my aims/hopes....

- visible progress from the shite of last season and a closing of any perceived gap to the teams above us
- entertaining football but with some steel thrown in
- lamela off the reins as I'm convinced he'll be a superstar
- take the Europa seriously
- walking into work on a Monday not having had to work out excuses why spurs got dicked on the previous weekend

if these come to pass we'll be there or thereabouts in every competition. am expecting 4th-6th but obviously hoping for glory as always.

Foxy, whatever we say as fans - balls deep for CL, Title, Cups, or being self-preserving and not expecting the world - poch is the kind of manager that will be trying to win everything.

Nothing we say or do will change that. We will be playing to positively win every game, going for it.

That's all on default with this guy.

What you seem to be annoyed about is that every fan isn't voicing that.

Come on dude, look at what we've just been through, people are simply taking care of their health.

Look at you, the season hasn't even begun and you need some Reiki! :D

I'd love us to win the Europa League, get into the CL and then start qualifying for it through the league the season after. Failing that, win the EL this season, finish third in CL group, win EL again after dropping down into it.

For the umpteenth time, no team will miss out on CL qualification unless the CL winners are also an English team and also finish outside the Top 4

:)

So can someone tell me, for the umpteenth time maybe,
if the europa winners/CL qualifiers will get a full share of the following season's CL money and TV rights?

This is very important, as CL without a nice bung to strengthen the squad would be like a more exhausting Europa league.
In fact with all the player's CL bonus clauses triggering, we might even lose money.

I'm hoping that Pooch takes a realistic and practical approach on the europa games, albeit an unpopular one with some.
We need to put pressure on that 4th place at the very least.
