It would be one hell of a coup for Spurs to sign Halilovic ahead of the Madrid's and Barca's of the world.

But good for the boy, its probably best for him to stay another 2 years, from his POV why rush?

Not really fussed on this, I mean.. Halilovic looks class and will be a great player by the looks of it.

But 20m for him and the other lad we can surely invest that money into a 20+ goal striker we desperately need.

Hope we didn't lose out on him over 400k euros a year and placing his brothers in a school as reports suggest... That would be catastrophic.

A couple of weeks ago, Croatian reports were rife that Tottenham had pulled off a real coup in signing Dinamo Zagreb midfielder Alen Halilovic as well as team mate Tin Jedvaj for a combined fee of 20 million euros.
Today, the same Croatian media has revealed the deal is off and the Croatian teenagers won’t be heading to White Hart Lane.
Spurs’ offer of 20 million euros was accepted by Dinamo Zagreb but the north London side failed to agree terms with Alen Halilovic’s family.
According to reports in Italy, Halilovic’s family were after a wage of 1.2 million euros a year plus a house for his family to live in and school fees for his two brothers.
Tottenham only proposed 800,000 euros a season and a house, so Halilovic’s family pulled the plug on the deal.
The deal with Halilovic, believed to be for the majority of the payment, broke down yesterday.
Meanwhile, the transfer Tin Jedvaj also appears to have fallen through with Roma believed to be keen on signing the young defender.

Wouldn't have thought so, sounds like he's just not bothered about moving yet, it could be anything, he might have a little sweetheart that he loves with alloveeza heart and will miss like his mamma's cooking.
Shame if it don't come off but the priority this summer has always been to get the players to challenge this season, plenty of time to get young stars in especially as we'll have a new stadium in a couple of years and be moving onward and upward, perhaps we'll take him then.:)

Yeah I posted in ITK thread I'd be very surprised if after agreeing to pay that much we were squabbling over personal terms.
Agreed hopefully in a few years we will be in a position to sign these type of players but by then I honestly see Halilovic being at Barca/Madrid.

If this is true then I'm not surprised we pulled out. €1.2mil a year for a 17 year old? Promising or not, that is a hell of a lot of money. That's just short of £20k a week, I don't even think the likes of Caulker, Townsend, Naughton etc. are on that and they're already in and around the first team.

Joke of it.
If this link is true, big IF by the way, then we lost out on a absolute sensation over approx £6.5k a week and private school fees for his 2 brothers equating to approx £60k a year for them both. Minor details in the grander scheme of things. Crazy :(

He's not any old young teenager though. The kid will be a sensation....

Have to agree. I would wager in 4-5 years time he will be in the starting line ups for one of the European giants; we will all look back and wonder what 'if'.

Although as you said it's a big IF, regarding whether the transfer broke down over the minute terms reported in the press.

presumably we think they are going to go on to be world class and go on to surpass Naughton... what with spending 20m on them. Therefore I think it is naive in the extreme to think that a 10m wonderkid being talked of as a future Barca/madrid player is going to expect a pat on the head and some jelly babies as payment.

I would like to refuse to believe it is true. That we would meet the exorbitant price but quibble on a few grand a week.

I think Fryers is earning close to 20k p/w so Halilovic is definently worth that. Even if he doesn't want to leave Zagreb yet with that money he (and his family) would.

Hopefully it's not officially dead... This is only one reporter. Still hope, even though few of the ITK's were negative about it.

Fair enough, I really know nothing of this player. I didn't realise he was that much of a sensation.

I've watched fair few games with him in, but to get an idea of his talent go look at youtube compilations... I know they can make anyone look good but worth a viewing.

No need to panic yet. The only things that have pointing to this deal not happening is an Italian media report, a Croatian media report spawned from it and Jasper, all of which are about as reliable as Defoe from the penalty spot. I realise a poster with a "Croatian Source" has said talks are finished and Halilovic isn't going anywhere but it is the 10th July, the window doesn't close for nearly two months, so lets wait and see what happens one way or the other.
