No surprise the ref was Moss. Terrible decision by VAR. How a professional referee cannot see Fernandez fouls the Villa defender is disgraceful. Man U have had more penalties this season than have the other teams in the PL

Moss should officiate only EFL games next season. It might liven his ideas up.

I see above ^^ chat about Jose inheriting a poor side... His only hope was squad turnover etc .

He said coming to Spurs was an easy decision because everything he needed was already in place inc the squad . What he said then was completely incorrect .

If he wasn't just bullshitting to get the job it shows a massive flaw in his ability to analyse teams.

Or perhaps he knows it would be unwise to come in like “this squad is shit”?

I disagree. Although he'll never be Eriksen, Winks can. It's noticeable that just about every time he gets the ball he looks forward to see what's on. I don't mean a 'hollywood' pass, just a progressive one that he can follow to begin an attack. The problem is that he has nobody to pass to because ahead of him everybody is static. So back and sideways we go. Again.

Exactly. He gets on the half turn(something Sissoko CANNOT do) and looks forward. Mainly those in front of him are stood around like statues so he opts to keep possession and spread it out wide or gives it to a centre back. He’s never going to play really risky passes because of the position he’s playing in. Lose the ball their and the opposition are straight onto our back four and likely to have a chance in goal.

I think this is all absolutely fair but my concern is that whilst the squad is largely spent and needs refreshing we don't have the means the do it. We could go out and get a bunch of free transfers but at the absolute most I could see us getting rid of maybe 4 or 5 and bringing in maybe 3 or 4 and are they really going to be of the required quality when Chelsea can go and get Ziyech and Werner.

The other concern is that whilst Mourinho has inherited a poor squad, it's becoming more and more apparent that he's probably not the right man to take us forward. I really wanted to believe he could come here and win us some trophies, like he's done elsewhere, but even with endless cash at Utd it ended up like it already has here.

Levy took what he thought was the best option but in truth it was short sighted and lacking in bravery imo. The brave thing to do would be to find another young, progressive coach that could motivate these players with new ideas. Mourinho's only hope was squad turnover and he simply won't be able to do that now.

The players need to take responsibility but ultimately they do what they are instructed to do or they won't play. This is probably why Ndombele isn't getting a look-in. Mourinho doesn't appear to have any real plan other than try to not concede and maybe snag a 1-0 win. It might change next season but right now things look seriously bleak.

Forget about a new coach, just look at the players. First instinct is head down and run forwards. These guys don’t have it in them to play brave, play head up and pass. We used to have a midfield that could zip the ball around with pace and confidence, but most of those players are long gone. All of our midfielders and our fullbacks need to be technically proficient, not just one or two.

To be fair, apart from the problems at FB and DM almost everybody thought this was a good squad. A lot of the problems would have been internal ones that you can only be privy to once in the dressing room. His only error may have been hubris thinking he could magic away problems that Pochettino couldn't.

My problem with Mourinho is that I’m just not even seeing the start of some basic team play being built. There are no green shoots so to speak.
If I could see a hint of some structure and gameplan being introduced, I’d buy into the plan.
These players are looking poor, but if Mourinho still is a truly world class coach then he should be able to extract more out of him than he currently is.
He has been unable to coach them into any recognisable formation or style, and continues to be unable to motivate them it appears.

My only hope is wholesale changes in the summer, rebuild the squad from top to bottom in the image me he wants, but then the pressure will be on, no more excuses about the squad not being as he wants. But in truth, do we see big changes, or just the usual couple of Plan B or Plan C options after we’ve wasted all summer chasing players who either have no real intention of coming, or even more annoying Levy has no intention of paying the selling club’s fee. Don’t have to be all world beaters and champions league winners etc, just need to be eager to work, on and off the pitch, and provide the squad with a greater balance in general.

We need fullback overhaul, get some that can move up and down the pitch and deliver accurate crosses without being a liability at the back, centre backs need freshening up, we need a defensive midfielder, any defensive midfielder, plus central midfielders who can pick a pass and create chances, and attacking players who can move off the ball and find space.

Agree with all this. The one positive thing I would say Mourinho has done is tighten the defence, especially since the lockdown. The Sheff Utd game apart we've looked more solid defensively. That's not to say we don't need changes at the back, particularly the FBs.

the fact we had to rely on VAR for avoiding defeat against bournemouth, a team who's lost 7 out of the last 8, prior to meeting us conceding 21 goals in those games, and we failed to muster a shot on target, tells you all you need to about us at the moment and for the last 12-18 months. we are rotten to the core, from top to bottom.

Any team can tighten the defence by refusing to try and enter the opposition half and passing the ball among centre backs all game.

And you have to start somewhere, and the first port of call is to stop leaking goals, the rest will gradually follow...hopefully. This season is a total washout, let’s see who lines up for our first game next season and take it from there although with ENIC’s past history I’m not overly optimistic.

Last night was evidence that Mourinho's brand of football is completely out-of-date. Kane had one touch in the opposition box for the entire game. We didn't have a single shot on target. Against Bournemouth. Who have been tanked by Palace, Burnley and Newcastle.

How have we arrived at this point?

There's so much blame to go around. But rather than being angry, all I feel at the present time is complete apathy. I don't care, just want the season to be over now. For the first time in 30 years, I'm gonna miss the NLD and spend the day with the wife & kids instead.

Thought I'd be so eager to watch Spurs again after lockdown but that's died so quickly. Maybe I'll return to 'normal' in time for next season, but I'm starting to re-evaluate everything and I'm thinking that maybe my money & time is better spent elsewhere rather than on renewing my season ticket for a 19th year. I'd bet that I'm not the only one either.

Jose is not entirely to blame and we do need a rebuild but we have gone backwards since his arrival.

He has shown nothing to suggest this will improve next season as he could have changed things up and hasn't.

He could have tried Ndombele and GLC in the same team.

He could have tried Sessegnon or Cirkin at Left back

He could have kept KWP and tried him at RB

He could have tried Skipp at DMC

He could have tried a 442 or proper 433 formation

He could have tried Parrott up front

He could have rested Kane and tried Son up front

He could have tried to play with a higher tempo and a high press

I hope I am wrong but the only good things he has done so far are moving Dier to centre back and giving Tanganga a chance.

The team seemed to lack intelligence yesterday and seems a lack of cohesion. On the positive clean sheet. Cant lose if we dont let any goals in, just need to balance that with a goal in the other net!

Just seen that they have admitted getting 3 decisions in 3 matches wrong tonight..ours was a penalty, Uniteds was a foul to villa and Southamptons wasn’t a penalty. 3 wrong...WTF!!!

its completely unacceptable. Michael Oliver should never be allowed to man the station again. absolutely no point in coming out afterwards to say they got it wrong despite having all the angles available to them.

I missed a chunk of the game last night between half time and 70 mins, I was then really surprised to see 12 mins injury time, can anyone tell me what happened to create so much time?

Also when Serge went down I thought fractured arm straight away, have we had any updates on him?
