You think winks and holjberg will be able to beat the press of Leeds. Will be another game of being pressed non stop like Southampton was. Can see us losing this one to be fair as well

Leeds have just lost 6 nil. I’m not panicking but if we can’t beat them on Sunday then even I’m going to start to get nervous about how things will pan out. Even a draw tonight would have been acceptable.
Early kick off. Fully expect our lot to turn up half asleep, get intimidated by the crowd, then proceed to lie down and roll over for them.

We can beat Leeds, Everton, Utd and Brighton. Boro in the cup is a chance to progress. We need to believe??

Goldenballs Romero didn't cover himself in glory with the goal we conceded, he cost us the match.

I want my defenders to defend first all the other stuff can wait.

I think Sess clearly was one of the issues, not THE issue, but one of them. I can't remember a single cross or decent ball into the box, I can't even remember him even attempting one to be honest. He looks scared and insecure. He is not of the required standard as is. Same can be said about a handfull of the players featuring today so the result is obviously not only his fault. But the problem isn't one player, it's the general standard of the squad.
Ironically Sess actually produced two excellent crosses. Right at the end of the first half he swung one in and Kane was on his heels, and in the second half he fired one across the edge of the six yard box that would have been a tap in if anyone had thought to react.

That he doesn't do it often enough might explain why we weren't expecting it, but it's not correct to say he neither attempted, nor got a decent cross in.

So does this thread. And this site. And Spurs fans…

might retrain as a psychologist :cautious:
No genuinely. From top to bottom we have that issue. Players have no focus and fans are defeatist. All I saw before the game was “oh wouldn’t it just be us to lose now after beating City”. And then immediately after rushing to be the first to call the result “Spursy”. It may seem inconsequential but it’s all contributing to this weird culture of failure we have as a club. Stinks.

We struggle to break teams down and unfortunately that's what we need to do against 75% of the league. Sometimes we get lucky and sometimes we don't.

Until we have more players who can help us in these games then they are all in the lap of the gods.

Interesting that you name Winks (who was fine actually) and Sess for giving away the freekick - but you don't name Romero who, if his name was Sanchez, would RIGHTLY be getting a fearful hiding from this thread for being at fault for the goal.

I get it - we all love Romero and he's class but he was at fault for the goal and wasn't great for their other big chance either.

If you're gonna hate share it!
I don't love Romero. I like him, and he's a player with promise, but our defence looked more solid without him. Not one clean sheet since he returned. Whereas we were letting in less with Sanchez Dier Davies
He has to learn how to deal with the aerial crosses that rain in, literally sometimes ?, in English football.
I think if Rodon starts tonight instead of Romero or Davies , we don't lose that game.
And I like both Davies and Romero, but tonight we needed a dominant aerial presence. Dier is okay, but he needs help.

PEH frustrated me tonight. He is unable to play on the turn so he passes backwards or sideways more often than not if facing towards his own goal. Winks fucks me off too but he is more comfortable collecting the ball than PEH. It just shows to me that we are still a player or 2 short in the middle.
I don’t think this problem applies to PEH in isolation. So many of our players lack the required technique to play on the half turn and put Us on the front foot. Sessegnon, Winks, Royal, and less so Davies are all guilty of turning inside or backwards and playing safe. Sessegnon had so many opportunities to go at the fullback and only did it once by which point nobody bothered to get in the box as they weren’t expecting that outcome.
Royal first half had so much space so many times and failed to threaten. There were also a couple of times where had he reacted quicker or shown a bit more desire he’d have had really easy passes to square across the box, but he delayed and let the defender get back in.

Bentancur coming off was a blow as he’s one of the few players we have who are actually comfortable on the ball and able to break the press.

This was so predictable from us. I don’t even want to think about the goal. The only way they were gonna score today and we’ve totally switched off.

Conte won’t walk but fuck me some of these players will test him

That's not true; he had a couple of decent crosses and connected with Son that looked promising. I'm not saying Sess was great or anything, but Kulu, Emerson, Lucas, and Berg all offered nothing much else. We agree on the quality on the squad though.

Rewatching the goal. Lloris really has to come and do something other than retreat onto his own goal line. Mee has nodded that in from 4/5 yards out and within the width of the goal. As he’s got older, he does this a lot at set pieces.

Disagree, he might get there at some point but atm I just don't see anything suggesting he should be starting games for us. His first touch is often quite bad and seems to second guess every decision and therefore losing pace and momentum.
It's a problem because you need players who have that belief and intent whenever they get on the ball.

Sess may develop it but I think he may need to go out on loan to do that.

Sess, Hojbjerg, Emerson, Winks all either lack the belief or ability to take on a player or try take one out of the game. The likes of Kane and Son suffer because no-one else is taking defenders away or taking them out of the game so that they can get an extra few yards to work in. You have to be able to win 1v1 scenarios more and more in football.

You don't need every player to have that capability but if players in important areas of the field can't do it then you will just come unstuck.

We arrived today with two wings backs who can't beat their man, one of two midfielders who can't do that (the other getting injured in the process wand his replacement being the exact same) and one CB who can't carry the ball into midfield and draw in players.

Until we get players who are willing or able to win 1v1 scenarios more often we will have issues against teams like we did today.

With weather as shitty as tonight, why didn't we just have a few pot shots from outside the area? Apart from one Harry effort we never tested Pope. There were loads of occasions where we tried to walk it through 10 men, because of our slow build ups. With the wind and wet, we could have got deflections and rebounds.
