Horrendously underrated player.

So glad we have him coming back into the fold for the second half of the season. If he can continue to perform as he has we're more than well stocked to compete on three fronts.

The big difference from Kane when he came into our first team and how I remember him in the early days, was that he'd picked up a yard of pace working with Poch's fitness team. Hopefully Chadders is seeing the same effect and can become a really awesome player. Like Kane he has a great reading of the game.

Poch's stated several times that he's fine with Chadli and Son as back ups to Kane....so that's enough for me. Fans who think that Spurs can pick and choose their choice as Kane's understudy are delusional. Spurs simply won't pay enough to keep a top quality CF happy on the bench for most of the season.

Doesn't read that way here...

"We have offensive players who can play like Harry. There is Sonny or Chadli or Clinton - they can play like a striker," he said.

"But maybe it's true. I recognise they are not specifically strikers so maybe we will work to try to find such a player we can add in the next transfer window or in the summer to try to help the team.

"We are trying to follow players now, but it is very difficult. What is most important is that we do not rock the balance of the team. It is important we find someone who is very specific.

Don't think anyone anywhere is arguing that another striker wouldn't be a good thing. The point is whether any striker would be.

The answer to the second is most clearly a no.

We have a mentality and philosophy at the club that the player in question needs to fit, and they need to be able to come in and not upset the harmony in the squad. The right player could push us on further to glory, but the wrong one would could ruin everything.

We have a young squad and coach who will only get better, so there is no rush. This won't be only our chance. It's better to stick with what we've got if we can't find or attract the right guy.

In that scenario Chadli, Son, and Clinton are able deputies.

He could probably cover a striker's position better than one of a centre midfield two. And we've had a manager who thinks he's good enough to play there.
:chicken:
Without Kane, maybe we would change formation a little but I think a front 3 of Chadli, Son & Clinton would score goals.

Chadli clearly doesn't have the same qualities as Kane to play upfront but I believe a like for like replacement is unlikely.

I don't want us to just buy anyone so we can say we have a backup. In the past I've seen us fill our squad then when the right player comes along we have to sell before we can buy and selling players isn't always as easy as we'd like.

Son is first backup and Chadli can do a job if both Kane and Son get injured. As 3rd choice I believe he's a decent option.

Chadli is massively underrated by most fans, hes incredibly tough to play against because he holds soo many good cards. Big, strong, good movement, good in the air, great shot both feet. As a defender, its tough to stop somebody for 90mins whdn they have soo many strengths.

We will never find harry mk2, and chadli may be a little less effective BUT id fancy chadli to score as a striker in our team more than pretty much all our transfer targets. I think if harry was injured and chadli played out the remaining 15 games as striker hed bag 7-10 goals. Not bad.

How the hell is Chadli predictable? He can use both feet and his head comfortably, he can actually beat a player and is very clinical in front of goal. We've had too many games where we've dominated but not been able to score in a brothel so having someone of his calibre in the front 4 (or 1) is invaluable.

When he's cutting in from the left he can be predictable, especially when he move's with no urgency (he's not alone on this, the whole team is slow in the final third). There are moments where he can burst past his opponent but instead he'll slow down to walking pace and miss the opportunity.

I do agree with the OP though.

Two days to go to the close of Jan transfer window. Its possible, we may not have any new back up striker. Just looking within the squad, Chadli IMO looks to be obvious backup. This is Chadli's 3rd season at Spurs. He may not be everyone's preferred starting XI player but end of the day, he does the job.

Goals Scored/Assisted per minutes played (all competitions) :

2013/14 (5 goals/6 assists / 1921 mins) - 174 mins
2014/15 (13 goals/5 assists / 2947 mins) - 163 mins
2015/16 (5 goals/5 assists / 1082 mins) - 108 mins

This stat of Chadli's is only behind Kane who had scored/assisted per 99min last season. Son this season has 118 mins.

Chadli can hold the ball & score on both foots & headers as well. He may not affect the game as Kane does but he has knack of scoring when least expected. Also, he is a player on the up. He was one of "the 7" who gets constantly ridiculed but to be honest, for 7m he has been a steal in hindsight. Pochettino has improved his game & this season after a injury spell, he looks fresh & threatening to score most times.

Other back up candidate - Son. While he is good, I guess he is still light weight for the upfront role. I would rather have him play RW than striker to get the best out of him.
Don't agree this is the best solution as I don't see either as an out and out striker in the Kane mold so we are weaker with either. However looking at how the window is going tonight, obviously Pooch has made his mind up that one or both of these guys are our second striker, he may even add Lamela and Ali to that list? So no striker this window lads.

I think the problem is that people assume if Kane is out that we need a like for like replacement. In truth we don't, we don't have to play 4-2-3-1 when Kane is unavailable. Arguably the best example of the Poch philosophy of pressing from the front was against Monaco at home and regardless of how the OS or tv suggested we lined up as 4-2-3-1 I'd suggest we actually played closer to 4-3-3 with a fluid front 3. This has been the case when Son has played centrally as well.

I'd rather we don't buy Berahino if the alternative is that with CL football we can make a much better signing in the summer e.g. Embolo.

I love Chadli and he's drastically underrated. However, of the goals he's scored, I can't ever remember him scoring a goal that started with his back to goal. Most are cutting in or on crosses (not headers). I'm just not sure he knows how to attack from up top.

I think Son is probably the better at playing up top, but I Chadli has a better eye for goal...if that makes sense.

He's got all the attributes to be great but he's not. Weak in the tackle, doesn't seem to have the hunger nor workrate and mentally not strong enough. Frustrating player for me, maybe because he's got it all in his locker to be great. Can fill in for Kane for sure, just don't think he'd be good at it.

It wont work. Chadli is a good player don't get it wrong but a striker? no. Doesn't have the mind set, lacks the movement, positioning wise it wont work, can't hold the ball up, can't be a target man. So no it wont work, lets just hope Kane doesn't get injured.

The Eredivisie and the EPL are two different things altogether, but he played striker for FC Twente on multiple occasions and fared well.

I'm honestly not concerned at all about him playing there. He's shown he knows how to find pockets of space around the goal, he can attack the ball in the air, he's decent enough with the ball at his feet, he's got the strength required to mix it up in the middle and he can finish chances. We create a fair amount of good chances and he's not the type that when I see a ball drop to his feet I'm thinking of how he's going to mess it up as opposed to convert the chance.

He'll be fine, really.

if we don't get another striker in and Kane gets injured we'll probably play 4-6-0 and would still score goals, question is would it be enough to beat teams and get the 3 points... that's another thing.
