Not the clinical finisher that we need, but he can be a handful for most defenses.

Far to inconsistant though, but the lad is only 22.

another Heskey for me. Has talent but won't score enough goals himself. Needs another striker alongside him who can pick up the pieces and Spurs don't have that type of striker.

He was very wasteful in the Bradford games and also missed a great chance against us moments before we countered and finished the game off.

Also worth mentioning when reading about Defoes pelvic injury on the Daily Mail it mentions our interest but also that he'd not available now as hes played for 2 clubs this season

Technically I would suggest Sigurdsson could reap the rewards of playing off Benteke, picking up the pieces as he did for Swansea playing off Danny Graham, plus as has been said, at 22 he will improve. My father in law is a Villa ST holder, and said when he first landed he looked very raw in terms of style and technique, but within a matter of weeks he said Benteke was showing a marked improvement. He seems to think that he has the basic tools and with another 12 months PL football, he will be a £20m+ player.
However, I think all this is pointless, because I seem to think there is a rule whereby a player cannot play for more than two sides in a season, and I believe Benteke played for Genk this season prior to joing Villa.

Edit, just seen this in the post above too after I'd written it.

This guy is blatantly going to be one of those players that will divide opimions. I mentioned my dislike for him a few weeks ago and ended up with a load of negative AND positive reps.

I agree he can at least improve due to age, but I still think his awareness is not good enough to be a top striker. He's perpetually offside whenever I watch him and needs about 20 shots to get 1 in. I'm sure a better club than Villa will pick him up in the summer though and then we'll see what he's made of.

Has the tools to be a handful. Someone mentioned Lukaku in this thread and he'd be a better option but I can see Benteke becoming unplayable in his mid to late 20s in a team that takes advantage of his obvious strengths. Raw but I wouldn't be against it.

10 goals in 22 for games in his first season in the PL. 4 in 5 in the Carling Cup.
at the age of 22 in an absolute awful team in which without him would be a lot worse off.
compare that to defoe who plays in a a far superior team; that create lots more chances.
good in the air; strong; can hold the ball up, has pace, a good shot.
all the attributes to be a top player.
even got 4 goals in 10 games for belgium. compare that with Lukaku who has 3 in 19 for belgium and cost nearly £20million.

and only cost £5million plus add ons.
he will not be at villa next year.

yet people dont rate him??

some people on here are such jokers ...

the guy is 21/22, in his first season in england, playing for arguably the worst team in the league and he has 10 goals in 22 games. just look at his goal at the weekend where he breezed by the defender and cooly slotted home, or his thunderbolts against liverpool and west brom, or his back heel to weimann away to liverpool in what was probably the best team goal all season. he has some 10/10 moments and some 2/10 moments but that's understandable at such a young age and still adapting to a new league/country, you should be focusing on the positives rather than the negatives.

he's big, strong, quick, "proven" in this league, very young, can obviously finish, he's fricking belgian, can play up top alone, will cost a decent amount but is within our range. only a handful of players have scored more this season and all are playing for vastly better teams except for lambert at southampton. i don't know why you wouldn't want this guy.

people have been wetting their pants over damiao but benteke gets likened to emile heskey?

Much rather Benteke than Leandro. Fuck him, he doesn't want to play for us and is overrated. Benteke is premier league proven, younger and more potential imo.

Well he is Emile in disguise at times. Unfortunately people don't remember the number he misses and get blinded by those he scores. He has a lot of improving to do to be of any use to anybody in the top 4. He was terrible for instance in both legs against Bradford missing a host of chances and costing his club a cup final appearance. He scores in one game, misses a hatful of sitters in the next, then scores in the next , then another game missing sitters. When he learns consistency he may be useful.

He is another Pav at the moment.

He has a lot of improving to do but has the ingredients to be a good player. However I don't think we can afford him the time he needs to get to the level we now require, and if he did come here anytime soon he wouldn't get the game time he needs anyway.

Maybe in 3/4 years but not yet for me.

the problem is that the amount of times i saw something like this posted during the window "we need to take a chance on a player before they become top level and beyond us financially", well that's easy to say but i bet the majority of players in question would've been scoffed at had we actually signed them while they were "unproven". everyone wants a proven top quality forward for max £15m, well sorry to break it to you but those don't exist.

saying lets go for him 3 or 4 years time is absolutely useless.

I disagree actually, I think many if not most Spurs fans would have been more than happy with us bringing in a relatively unknown or unproven young striker who has been showing potential in the last window

We should definetly look at signing him... I'm hoping for Villa to get relegated so we get him.

He's only 22 playing in a poor side and bullied Vertonghen when we played them at the Lane. He's so strong yet has good technique and his goaltally proves he's a cool finisher, already settled in premier league...... What more people do people want??? Oh a 23yo Brazillian costing >£20million who's unproven in Europe.

Sign Benteke Levy!!!!
