Is Dempsey gonna take over from Jenas as abuse magnet? Certainly looks that way.

Ya'll know it will only destroy his confidence and make him play worse.

I don't think so, he has a very strong mentality. I also doubt he will linger like Jenas. With Holtby's arrival and turning down Reading's bid for Siggy I fully expect DL to flog Dempsey this summer.

He's already contributing more than Jenas and he's actually got some bollocks about him...

...and before everyone starts on the guy again, he was our 4th or 5th choice target and we only got him because he was going CHEAP...like most of our other fucking signings.

A good option to have on the bench when we are chasing games but IMO he lacks basic football skills and intelligence.

He has scored a few goals but his general play disrupts the fluidity of our attacks means we sometimes do not create as many quality chances as we would if we had someone with a greater intelligence and ability in his position.

He seems to have a good attitude and fight about him so I can see an argument to have him as an option from the bench but he should never be a first team player in an aspiring Champions League side.

Clint may not have set the world alight thus far - I think though he is more than capable of doing a job upfront for us over the coming weeks.

With this in mind - there will be little point in throwing Ade in,saying he must play - from what I'm hearing from other players returning from these competitions over the past few years is it does takes a little time to recover.

This is one of the dumbest threads I've see on this forum... Look at his record last season he is hardly shit... As said above he hasn't got bad stats this season either, makes a change to have someone with some guts and a bit of fight in the team

He was a panic signing but he helped us get 4 points against Man U, that alone means that he won't be forgotten for a while.

He's barely been at the club 6 months. Jesus christ. What ever happened to giving a player a bit of time? Its hardly like he hasn't contributed either, fair enough at times he's struggled to fit into our system and prehaps lacks the work rate thats demanded of every spurs player by people on this board, but he clearly has the ability, we've seen it on occasions this season and he showed bucket loads of it last season at Fulham. It's almost as if a lot of people want him to fail, I feel sorry for the guy to be honest.

5 goals+3 assits in 20 games; thats nearly 0.4/game
Bale's on 11 goals + 1 assist over 22 games thats 0.55/game
Lennon 3 goals + 6 assists over 25 games thats 0.36/game.
He has contributed. You can critcize his lack of style/skill etc...all the qualitative stuff, but can't say he's not productive.
Unless you deem Lennon unproductive this season.
At least be consistent.

The problem with looking at assists to see if a payer is good or not is that the build up play might be what creates the goal and not the person who has the last touch.

Does someone passing the ball to a player 50-60+ yards away from the goal realy set up the goal even though the other player has created the chance himself?

A few people on here have been using goal scoring chances rather than assists now and its probably a better thing to look at.

Dempsey is a good squad player, but not sure i would have him starting many games. Would also like to see how Sigy does behind Ade at somepoint as well.

I can imagine a lot of the people bringing up Dempseys goalscoring stats are the same ones who were moaning when we sold Darren Bent...

Stats can be very misleading. Two of his goals were massive deflections. Two were tap ins that Sandra would have scored.

How about those who haven't bashed Defoe because of the goalscoring streak he was on for a few games, yet was even more useless than Dempsey in all the others?

Selective stat selection for people who want to fit an agenda.

And who's to say Player X would've followed the run in the same exact way Dempsey did and also scored all of those.

Yes, if there is no track record. THe purpose of stats over a few seasons is that it smooths out the impact of 'impressions' so you can reflect on what a player could contribute. I agree with you that for certain goals it might just be luck. However with enough stats backing that up it raises the question why he is lucky, at which point you can reflect.
I think Dempsey is that kind of player. He is decent stats-wise over 2 to 3 seasons so there must be something more to his game than how he appears. Maybe its luck; if that is consistent then i'm all in.

smart, intelligent player who has a big heart.
he is always running into open spaces, that's why he has so many chances against Man Utd. hopefully overtime, the rest will adjust to his style of play instead of the other way round, cause i really hate those static ****ers.

That is just ridiculous. Who cares how he scores goals, but he has. He was in the right position at the right time to score the goals. His contribution to the team is limited, but he has still scored goals, still assisted and works his nuts off during a game. To call on him as a squad player shows how far we have come.
