Globally footballers are shitter now than they were 20+ odd years ago. You can name 5/6 genuenly great current players. Back then there were loads, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Figo, Zidane, Del Piero, Totti, Batistuta, Klivert, Raul etc etc

Don't agree with this. Those names sound so much better through nostalgia.

Now the game is played at a much quicker pace . Watch them old games, often those players had so much time.

Has the game lost the mavericks through its increased pace and intensity? Maybe. But in twenty years time the next generation will be racing about. Messi, Ronaldo, De Bruyne, Mbappe, Vinicius Jnr, Kane Naymar, Salah, Musiala and others.

Finishing top 4 and winning some of the big games under Redknapp and Poch have been our best years in the last 30 years. Better than any trophy winning season over that time. I'll take more of that over a trophy. I still think Champions League is a great competition to be in. I still love seeing us face the giants of world football. I don't think it's boring just because the format has remained for so long. Also finishing top 4 over 38 games is far more difficult than winning the FA or Carabao Cup. The only reason trophies are so widely spoken about is because we get mocked for it by rival fans. I don't believe it matters so much on the grand scheme of things. It's nice to win one of course but unless it's the league or Champions League it's just a bonus. I would rather get back into top 4 and win more of those big games with Champions League nights than win a lesser trophy and finish lower in the table.

The odd cup here and there while being overall pretty crap, if we’re honest - think we qualified for the UEFA Cup once in the decade before ENIC came in. I personally wouldn’t go back to consistently midtable in return for trophy once a decade - which is the rate we’ve won them at historically!

Think it’s 1.6 a decade from 1900->2000 16 trophies.
