What's new

Could we have had a stab at the title this year?

I'm not convinced Levy didn't go out of his way to offer Bale to Madrid. I have no confidence in him at all now, and don't see any point in getting attached to players like Eriksen as I'm sure we'll be looking to turn a profit on him a year from now.

I don't agree,Levy said recently that he would not have sold Bale for £125m if he felt that Bale would give his all for the club.He also said that he would love to have Bale still at Spurs.

This, Utd offered more money but Levy would not sell to any club in the UK, as for Levy offering Bale to Madrid well that is rubbish.

One of the most reliable ITKs went into detail over a year ago about how we started arranging the Bale to Madrid deal when we were negotiating with them over Modric. So maybe it's not so rubbish.

I think the words they used (over a year ago remember) was that we had a team of people tirelessly working out the figures for a deal for summer 2013, specifically to Madrid.

We are a feeder club. As was said on the second page, Eriksen will be off in a year when a bigger/richer club comes in for him. In my mind we are full of players who are either building up to a move to another club (Eriksen, Vertonghen, Lloris), not good enough to play for a club of Tottenham's level (Rose, Naughton, Dawson) or hanging around because we are probably the best they can get (Dembele, Lennon)

We've done ok with upgrading the squad after players are sold. The problem is it often takes 18 months for the replacements to come in to their prime, we can't afford to do it any other way. In the long run though it's been a progression. Wait until we have a new stadium and see how keen Levy is to sell players

Levy is just a typical snake oil salesman who will say all sorts of shit to pull the wool over people's eyes.

I don't think the figures for the deal were ever discussed before the summer. However I do think we started talking to Madrid about them having first option.

Interesting the papers in spain say that they paid Bale's camp to force a move and if they didnt manage to get one they would have to pay Madrid back similar to Neymar deal.

I actually always thought next year would be our best chance, once the new 7 had settled and worked out how to play in the prem.

So long as we get a decent manager, I'm willing to say Van Gaal might be the right man for the job, give him £50m plus anything we make in sales, along with control of who he wants in the squad so he actually has the players he wants, I think it could be good things.

This year was always going to be a transition as we had to integrate 7 new players into the squad. Simples...

Which reliable () ITK would that be.

Know its fashionable to bash our club, but can we at least find some common ground to agree that Liverpool would not of turned down £85m from Madrid for Suarez?

Would they not have? I'm not so sure. That's a ridiculous amount of money, it's unprecedented. They accepted much less than that for Torres from a direct rival, and he was immense at Liverpool.

I think once Madrid get their claws into a player, it's pretty much a foregone conclusion once they stump up an offer you can't refuse. Had they have gone after Suarez instead of Bale last summer, and used all their dirty tricks to unsettle him, Suarez would have ended up dicking about, faking injuries and not wanting to play, like Bale, Modric and Berbatov did with us, and eventually he'd have gone for a pretty penny.

It's not just the amount that tempts the club to part ways with the player, but the fact that clubs like Madrid will do anything to unsettle that player, and once that player's head is turned you've not got much of a choice any more.

That's exactly my point buddy!

Whilst the money may of been invested more prudently, the enormity of the deal was too good to turn down.

Now, steady on, those three would beat a Charizard in a fight.

Right?

Jigglypuff would just send Charizard to sleep. Just like how we've spent most of this season sending our fans to sleep.

Indeed, i can not believe that anyone really believes he would not be wearing a Madrid shirt now if L'pool had been offered that.

I apologise, I completely misread your comment. I thought you were saying they would have turned it down.

Arsenal were winning doubles and league titles and still they had to sell their best players when Barca and Madrid came calling. Problems is, we never had someone like Wenger.

Sold Anelka for 23m bought Henry for 10. Sold Petit and Overmars for 30m bought Gilberto and Pires for 10m.

Then after they moved into their new stadium and were earning the highest match receipts in the world, they still sold their best players - Cole, Henry, Toure, Adebayor, Nasri, Clichy, Song, Fabregas and RVP and they were still in exactly the same position after selling them - Arsene Wenger.
