personally I don't think he's good enough, it's not spot coming back from injury. Hope he proves me wrong obviously, just don't see it
Championship Player of the Season aged 20, not good enough?

He's had a horrendous 18 months. Judging him at this, frankly, still early stage of his comeback is too soon. Maybe this injury spell means he'll never hit the heights it looked like he could reach, but it's far too early to rule him out as not good enough yet.

Just saying what i see from his performances in a spurs shirt. I may be wrong, often am.

It makes such a difference when we go a goal up . This season we have been constantly chasing games but today we took control from the moment we scored and played it around nicely . Shout out to Hugo who made some great saves , it wasn’t all plain sailing .

Just caught MotD and apart from echoing Viera saying they didn;t deserve to lose 4-0 I don't think they did Palace justice for how they completely and utterly dominated us for 25 minutes before half time, you didn't get that impression at all.

Players are either gods or donkeys on here. Genuinely baffles me.

I must have watched a completely different game to many of you. First half wasn't amazing but it was significantly better than our last ten games or so and was very far from being "shit". We were trying to move the ball quickly. All 1 and 2 touch. It wasn't coming off but the intent was there and we were creating chances. Yes Palace had a strong 20 mins. That's football for you. Palace have a pretty tasty front line and we went in at half time without conceeding.

2nd half we did the same things but it started to come off for us. We created better chances and scored. The confidence came back after Kane's quick double and there was only 1 winner from then on.

Hugo - Great response after his fuckup vs Villa.
Skipp - Give the kid a break. Had a tough night but has barely played in a year. Managers love him.
Gil - Again give the kid a break. Way, WAY better than many are giving him credit for last night. Does everyone here only watch people on the ball or something? His tenacity and the way he flies back up after getting kicked up in the air for the tenth time to go back like a terrier reminds me of a young modric. He was constantly moving, constantly offering himself up, made some lovely runs that werent picked out. He's 21 ffs. EDIT: Oh and he was involved in the first goal and got the assist for the 2nd. A bit concerning that some want to sell him on or loan him out.
Kane - 2nd half went into full beast mode. MotM
Son - So happy to see that smile again! Hopefully the confidence will start flowing again for him now.
Sarr- Lovely cameo. Looks a real baller.
White - Delighted for the lad. Didn't look out of place.

Palace aren't a bad side and they were at home too so the spell in the first half when they dominated wasn't too surprising tbh.

We kept them out and looked fine from them on.

Started so slow, again. Better finishing, they should have gone ahead first half. Good result but we are far short of where we need to be. With difficult fixtures ahead, it’s going to test everyone’s metal.
I see what you mean. To be fair, there's never going to be an overnight change. It's all a work in progress - even if we went 5 wins in a row, one would still have to try and resist kneejerk responses.

For the nth time: wingbacks are not defenders. They are attacking midfield players with an auxiliary defending role.

Presumably to make this point to the more obtuse fan, the pre-match team sheets now list the wingbacks alongside Højbjerg, Skipp, Bissouma et al. rather than showing them flanking our three defensive players.

People always look at formations wrong in my opinion. Formations need to be considered in two ways; How many outfield players behind/ahead of the ball you have when you are in possession and how outfield many players behind/ahead of the ball you have when you are out of it. When I say behind/ahead of the ball I am referring to how a team wants to set up as they begin an attack, if it's a slow attack the ball is usually centre of pitch, in a fast attack you will see it manifest by what players are on their bike

Our issue this season has been that we seldom overload when in possession and move the ball slowly so we often when in possession were doing 7 behind and 3 infront which is awfully defensive and defending we're usually looking at 8-2 split which again is very defensive.

I think this gets at the crux of your issues because Liverpool/City play 4-3-3 but they both go 5-5 when they have the ball the majority of the time and to your point about our wing backs, when we play 3-4-3, we are set up for 5-5 also when in possession. So the start formation is pretty irrelevant, it's how the shape changes from situation to situation.

The touch and finish for Kane's second was what stands him apart from 99% of players. Lovely assist from Gill.

Good showing from Sarr, definitely something there.

Pleased for White. Looked like he's growing physically which will help him. Not sure whether keeping him around the first team or a 6 month loan will benefit him more ?

Edit, good response from Lloris and Romero was great.

Love this, thought Gil was great last night, yes he is lightweight but not everyone can be a beast. Sometimes lightweight is good it allows you to be nimble and draw fouls. Sarr I think will be a great/special player, we have to nurture this guy.

Very impressed with Sarr, though Palace had no heart at that stage of the match but he did everything well and was sensible.

With you - we could easily have been one or two down at half time, and then the whole complexion changes

It's been done to death, but my God, we need to figure out how to (more rapidly) get ourselves out of the extended spells of 'sh*t Spurs' we find ourselves in every game.

I get that games ebb and flow, but seriously, there are times when we just can't get our of our own half for about 30 minutes. It's bizarre.
It seems to me its the incapability to keep any possession of the ball at times, this could be players trying to play their way out of trouble with several touches, or us hoofing it long (where we are unlikely to win the ball) when a simple lay off and to keep movement to create availability and keep possession would hand less control to the opposition.

It's a confidence thing for me. It's a fine line between being too defensive and being too open, and the balance between the two doesnt stay static for 90 mins. I think that clean sheet will have done as much for our collective confidence as the 4 goals did the other end.

Totally agree with everything you say. That's exactly as I saw the game and the players. I liked the look of White he didn't seem overawed at all looks to have a good future (If he gets games). I thought Gill showed he has something different to offer and can be effective in linking up play.

Spot on about Gil. He's tenacious and runs his nuts off. I wish Richarlison would bounce back up like Gil does when he gets tackled to be honest, or even not go crashing to the ground so easily. Kulusevski stays on his feet if he can too and that scares the shit out of defenders. Gil got involved in plenty of good stuff so no idea why some are whinging.

Mettle.

And we didn’t “start slowly”. We dominated most of the first half hour, without making many quality chances.
Dominated because they allowed us to. We kept the ball without any conviction getting forward. I was pleased with our first half although I felt it was below par.End of the half they picked up the pace a little and with determination they had some really good opportunities to score. I can’t remember one decent effort we had first half.

performance was closer to how we finished the season last year. Overall it was a good performance but fell short of where we should be. There is some quality players to return so on the back of that performance we should be better with the better players coming back in.
