We'd need to shift soldado or Ade probably first. I'd swap Soldado for Defoe for 5 months no problem.

Maybe the development squad may be able to teach him the offside rule!

He wouldn't be my first few choices on who we get, but if we can't shift ade or soldado then a short term loan until the next window might be the last ditch plan.

Can't see Pochettino wanting to do this whatsoever and I hope he isn't pressurised into anything but you could see it happening if we havn't done anything by the last week of January.

Adebayor won't play and we can't rely on Bobby to score goals if something happens to Kane. But Defoe isn't the answer, we need someone to cover Kane who can lead the line properly.

All that said Defoe would at least offer more of a goal threat than Bobby even if the latter is a better all round footballer.

At least Defoe is a goal threat, we can't go on with a non playing ADe and a non scoring Sodado being our only back up to Kane

I think we should look else where but I'd rather have Defoe on loan than stick with what we have.

I quite liked the idea of Lambert on loan having played so well under Poch already - but I can't see Liverpool wanting to do that business with a direct rival for European places

There surely must be other, better options out there though

We have Baldini and now the Southampton guy in place, plus Poch and whoever else involved in transfer decisions - surely they can come up with a better plan

If we were interested in signing him on a loan, surely he would train with the first team and not the development squad.

I think we should really just go for Ings. Make Burnly a good offer, one they'd have to really consider. I know he'll go for free in the summer but our need is now, and its a big need. He could come in a play a massive part given the amount of competitions we're still in and doing better in the League now as well. He'd provide good cover for Kane and wouldn't expect to be starting every game, yet he'd still get plenty of game time in all likelihood.

Great work rate and attitude to, traits that certainly appeal to Pochettino and his style.

Could well be a decent move for the right price

Seems like a Levy move too - if we got him relatively cheap due to his contractual situation we'd likely make money when selling him even if he wasn't a success like Holtby

We could certainly make a lot of worse transfers this window

Some relegation battler will sign him up, if we were interested don't think he'd be training with the development squad.

I agree, and what's better, helping his club stay in the PL, or helping our club qualify for the CL?

As for Defoe, my opinion of him is no secret on here, and I'm well and truly in the camp of those who don't see him as something we need. I fully understand that he's scored goals, but when Poch bases pretty much everything on team ethic & togetherness, I can't think of anyone more opposite than Defoe.

Well, (not that we should believe it) talk on twitter is he's turned down QPR and opted to just train with us.

From Burnley's perspective which is more valuable, selling Ings now for say £10m and potentially getting relegated, or keeping him, staying up and receiving the £60m-odd for being in next season's PL but losing Ings for nothing. Obviously it's not as black and white as keep Ings - stay up, sell Ings - go down, but they stand a far better chance by keeping him.

If I were Burnley, unless I received a thoroughly stupid offer in the region of £20m with three good quality signings lined up to spend it on, keep him. It would be a risk, but one worth taking.

Yeah that's why it won't happen in all likelihood.
