Foreman asks the Bricklayer to build a wall, the Bricklayer dosn't fancy it, bricklayer not in a job for very long.

I can't understand the wrapping of players in cotton wool, and how we must pander to their mood swings.

We paid millions for pav, he is paid thousands every week, his job is to score goals.

They will be making annoucements to the crowd next "Anyone fancy taking a pen, platinum members only mind.

and if pav was amongst us you might have a point. But he's in a world where everyone esle is on millions. He passed on the pen to another multi million pound footballer.

No worse than my CF giving me the ball to score a pen when wer'e 2-0 up at a canter.

For those people slagging Pav off for not taking it, if he felt the same last saturday but took the penalty and missed, would you be happy about it??? Of course not.

Maybe he wasnt that bothered and thought Bale deserved a goal for his play. Maybe Bale missing will convince Pav to take responsibility next time.

I would have liked Pav to take it, but I wasnt that unduly worried when Bale stepped up. Shame his penalty was pretty poor

He passed on the pen is correct, if i was the manager i would offload his arse in the next window. We paid millions for a Goalscorer thats his job.

Lets hope we don't need him in a penalty shootout situation later on in the competition, and he dosn't fancy it again.

if Pav said he didn't fancy it & let a young lad who hasn't taken a pen before take it, then shame on him.

he is a pussy who needs to be shown the exit door to this club. he adds NOTHING to the team.

It's not the same though, he hasn't refused to train all week or to play so he's still trying to do the job he's paid for. He didn't refuse the penalty because he didn't want to take it, he refused it because he wasn't confident of scoring so gave it up for the good of the team.

I'm strangely glad that Bale missed, we don't want him to get too carried away and start thinking he's better than us. (Of course I wouldn't feel the same if the pen meant something).

Thats where we differ, i think it is the same. If he took the pen and missed i wouldn't be on his back as its part of football. Its the fact that he refused to take the pen that gets my goat. Not to worry lets put it down to him having a bad hair day!

I guess you lot never played football much when you had shit game and there's doubt in your head, you shouldn't be taking a penalty full stop. If you do take it and miss, your confidence is just shot.

VDV missed the penalty earlier and probably didn't want to take it as well so pav took penalties after him.

In a penalty shootout most of the time when player doesn't feel happy about taking a pen, they are more likely to miss than if they weren't.

Is this really that much of a big deal?

Woeful penalty from Bale though, we've found a weakness in him at last!

I do find it a bit odd that a guy who is very good at taking penalties chose not to. I so hope we had a regular starter who is lethal on pens like a Shearer, Le Tissier, Lampard or Ronaldo. Robbie Keane is our only penalty specialist but he will never start again for us

It's that winning mentality that some of our team lacks.

You have to wrestle the ball off some people.

I have played plenty of football in my time, there's a major difference, i was never a professional, these players are. I would like to think the players would stand up to the plate, grab the bull by the horn and just get on with it.

I was at the UEFA cup final in 84, standing on the shelf biting my nails along with everyone else. Danny Thomas knew he had a responcibilty to take a pen, he didn't use confidence as a weak excuse to bottle out of it. He missed but we all knew what the players were going through. To a man everyone sang "there's only one Danny Thomas"

Graham Roberts would have run through a brick wall for the club, came from non league football direct to spurs, he would never bottle taking a pen for spurs.

Did Harry say when Pav refused the penalty? As soon as the penalty was given, Bale picked up the ball and placed it on the spot. There was never any doubt in my mind that Bale was going to take it. I suspect that this may been decided in the dressing room.

how is this a big deal, perhaps to people who hate pav it is, something to hit him over the head with, thank god it wasn't JJ.

he missed his last penalty, and has been generally poor in front of goal in the last 2 games, he wasn't feeling it on the night, fair enough i say if he thought someone in better form might stick it away for sure. i'm sure bale was happy to, no one forced him, modric certainly could have taken it

How many have we missed this year? 3?

It's OK, we've got Defoe back to take them now, he never misses............

We have scored a few this year as well though, nowhere near as bad as last season.

Surprised that Pav passed up the opportunity to take it, yeah he missed against Blackburn but how many has he scored for us, did that really knock his confidence that much?

He always struck me as the type who will keep going no matter how many chances he misses and eventually score, so I would have expected him to relish a chance from the spot in a relatively comfortable game for us.

Hold up, regardless of what my thoughts on Pav are (not great right now), if a player feels he is not in the right frame of mind, or low on confidence so that he doesn't feel he will 100% bury a penalty, then surely he has every right to say..."you know what guys, I'd rather someone feeling a bit more confident took this one".

It's not like we have a recognised pen taker.

im in total agreeance with this !
