Hopefully an embarassing oversight finally being rectified. Never understood the argument that he wasn't in the squad despite clearly being suitable for it because the incumbent defenders had "never let England down" despite playing like dross for their clubs, meanwhile Eric Dier has previously captained England and was trusted to take the decisive penalty in a tournament shootout, which he scored.

...but pls don't get injured Eric

He had a really good game today imo. Loved the way he was stepping into midfield to create an extra option and probably did his England chances a boost after the earlier rumour that he could be included.

he was good, but still didnt cover himself on glory for goal, he has a annoying habit of just standing and letting players curl the ball around him instead of closing them down

He did nothing wrong for the goal. In that position you expect Romero, to shepherd Mitrovic down the line on his left - not cut inside. If anything youre cutting off the pass into others running in the box. Youre trying to not lay the blame on Romero and to be honest its not about blame, its a goal, goals happen but it was lazy from Romero not Dier.

Likely England recall for Dier... well deserved. But I was hoping he would miss the WC... we don't need him to be tired or injured. Romero is not on top at the moment. And he's going as well.

I know Dier has to prove himself again first. But he is among the best England defenders at the moment.

Really happy for Dier, one of our better players and has been super for the last year since Conte's arrival. Well deserved

He just sat right next to me at a cafe in Hampstead. Was about to say congrats on the call-up, but then felt like a total penis and didn't. Cool story bro

He's not been faultless this season, but in a back three, him starting in the middle is a no brainer. Although you'd imagine Southgate would go for Walker, Stones and Maguire as his three.

Well-deserved, really happy for him. I was worried we'd never see the best of him again after his health issues a few years back but he's obviously put in a lot of hard work, and it's nice to see it pay off.

What utter nonsense, what's he suggesting that Dier says nothing about it? I would say Dier does take it on the chin well but he's being honest about the abuse at games. He's also mentioning in regards to his family not going to games due to abuse so not even about himself.

Yeah, because some forms of abuse are acceptable and we should take it on the chin....what a twat.
Murphy is a cock. He clearly did not read the interview Dier did as he said it was his family that got the abuse, and they no longer attend away games because of it.
