The overlapping runs he made caused a lot of problems for Bournemouth and he put in very good delivieries when he got the chance too. I'd argue he did better out there in an offensive capacity than both Sanchez and Romero. I'm not advocating him starting out there, but he certainly showed that he can play the role.

He needed to be sat down. Whether fatigue, or other, he has had a shaky few games.

But, I liked that he came in and started getting things organized again. - he even looked a bit more refreshed and confident.

We could use another defender in January so that Dier has some completion and rotation when needed.

(that could be Lenglet - if we brought in different competition for Davies at LCB)

Was really good when he came on. Nice to see him adapting to a different role, he looked nice and mobile playing rcb.

His little stint up the right flank was the best bit of RWB play we've had this season.

I'd be fine keeping Lenglet and Davies as LCB options with Lenglet also covering CCB. I do think we need a better option at RCB than Sanchez or Tanganga though.

I really like him at RCB, he has a decent cross imo

Romero played CCB at Atlanta albeit a slightly different role. I wouldn't mind trying him there

Still dont see him as anything more than a squad option. Just has too many sloppy bits of play in him, whether thats switching off defensively or playing a sloppy pass. It was never going to be easy replacing Vertonghen and Alderweirald but Dier and Davies are a considerable step down.

Actually think both are quite poor when pressurised on the ball and not too difficult to force a mistake out of. Doesn't mean they are not capable of good games or a good run but I struggle to see a team pushing on with those two being regular starters over a course of a season.

Its quite the opposite, Dier's weakness is his passing range, he constantly gives the ball away, compare his passing range to what Toby used to bring to the table, its chalk and cheese. Half our problems of dealing with teams who press us is the inability of players like Dier to find a teammate and not constantly give the ball back to the opposition and in turn bring increased pressure.
When Toby played teams were very wary to press us, as they knew his ability to ping a pass through/over the press, did it many times to Dele for goals, Dier unfortunately does not possess this skill.

his biggest weakness is that he doesn't close the ball down because he is scared of pace against him that's why when he is pushed wide he is so vulnerable - unfortunately as the central centre back his position dictates the defending and as his default action as a defender is to drop off that leads to the back line dropping so deep

His passing is ok overall for a centre back he is prone to the occasional lapse but that is often because our movement of the ball is so poor and we have scarcity of players stretching the play

He played some absolutely suicide passes into central defence last night. I feel he needs to be taken out but if Romero is out we don't have other good options.

Yesterday, they all made terrible passes but not as much their fault as it might look especially in the first half. Our WBs and CMs were playing right on top of them no real passing angles and the ball was not sticking to Son or Kane as they had no one to lay the ball off to when double teamed. In the 2nd half, it was better for everyone once the CMs played up the field a little providing more space and better angles for the passes.

I think Dier is a key member, if not the key member of our defense. Results when he has been out in the last year back that up.

The problem with Dier is that he can be ok but he is so fragile as a player he makes a mistake and falls apart he then quantifies it by hiding and not doing his job usually by backing off to ridiculous levels not engaging the attackers and hoping he doesn't get punished. The disappointing thing is that he is probably not the worst we have but he plays in a key role in the side

Good squad player but he really should not be one of the main defenders in our side. He just isn't good enough on the ball and is still prone to costly errors.
