Tottenham have been handed the chance to sign Santos star Ganso after contract talks broke down this week.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder - whose full name is Paulo Henrique Chagas da Lima - has won seven caps for Brazil and is being tipped for a big future.

Ganso was linked with Spurs earlier in the summer, and now Santos president Luis Alvaro Ribeiro has revealed he will be made available for transfer after turning down a new deal.

Tottenham are reportedly already in for another Brazil-based midfielder, Sao Paulo's Oscar, and reportedly tabled an £11million bid - but they could capture Ganso for less than that.

Ribeiro, whose prize asset Neymar is also coveted by English clubs, said: "Only Neymar is not negotiable.

''All other players, including Ganso, have the door open, depending on the proposals as they arise.

''If the will of Ganso is to leave, and there are clubs interested, then we are willing to listen to offers for him.''

Chelsea, Porto and Manchester United have also been linked with the midfielder, whose contract expires in 2015.

Spurs bought Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson this week, and have signed winger Gareth Bale to a new contract but are expected to sell playmaker Luka Modric this summer.

I think Oscar looks the better player and better prospect, but would clearly cost a lot more and be a lot more difficult to get.

Either way I do have my reservations about these dynamic Brazilians. I know Sandro has worked out for us but history isn't generally on their side when it comes to moving to, and adapting in, the Premiership.

We've got Gylfi, and if we can get Moutinho and keep VDV, then I'm not sure we need to spend any more money in midfield...at least until we get the forwards sorted.

Wouldn't go near him. Not because he isn't good, he's excellent (albeit in a poor league). But his knee(s) are shot to fuck apparently. One of the reasons Milan and PSG dropped interest in him

Looks massively more flamboyant than Oscar. A good thing?

Different players in different positions. Ganso would take over from Modric whereas Oscar would be more in the AM role where Sigrudsson will be playing too.

Ganso for less than £11m would be a decent bit of business, although i have my slight reservations.

However i think the approach of us buying 2/3 x £10-12m players rather than 1 x £30m player with the Modric money is the better move, that way at least one will pan out to be a huge hit with us.

He's better suited to Seria A or La Liga.

King wont have long to go.... we need to replace him with someone in the injury room...

To be fair the good ones have never come to the prem before, mostly as during the early 00's the PL was not as well though of as it is now and also the weather and cultural acclimatisation.

The likes of Kaka, Ronaldinho, Leonardo etc... never made it to the prem.

But i understand your reservations.

He'd feel at home with King and Van Der Vaart then

Rivaldo could have made it in England, awesome.
Sorry brasil_spur, I haven't been on the site for long - are you from there or just live in that part of the world mate?
The thing about Ganso's knee(s)... Is there truth in that?

At the moment neither mate. The misses is from Brazil and i've lived out there for about 5 years total now, at moment back in UK, but will be back more perm in the near future. I was in Brazil when i became an SC member, hence the username.

Not heard anything other than rumours about the knee, but it's not something Santos would want to make public knowledge if true as his value goes down by about 90%.
