greeko, what is it exactly that you want? What is it that all you neggers (as in people who neg, before anyone jumps on me for badly spelt racism) want?

Is it basically to make everyone around you want to slit their wrists? What does your negativity actually achieve? Is it that hard just to have some faith and perhaps share the joy that's supposed to come with supporting your club?

Does it have to be doom and gloom? Does it have to be misery and sourness? Where's the joy of following your club? Isn't that joyful for you? Isn't following Spurs something one is supposed to enjoy?

Exactly this. It's like moaning for the sake of moaning. No one is happy at losing such quality but sometimes it is unavoidable. You have to move on and try an improve again.

Rez, its a fair point you make....but you you support and love a club for decades it tends to become more to you....dare I say maybe even more important to you than it should be.

The last few years have been the first glimpse I have ever got of our club being one of the top clubs....eveytime I turn on the TV and I hear somebody mentioning us on the same par as Arse or even challenging for a title I get butterflys.....sometimes when I seen our team line up on tv I had to pinch myself.....for the first time in my lifetime we had a squad comparable with Uniteds, players like Modric and VDV playing in a Spurs shirt.....Unbelievable stuff.

You have to realise this is why people are getting so upset....tonigh for me has been one of my worst as a Spurs fan I can honestly say because I can feel all that good stuff I mentioned slipping away!

I dont enjoy because a sour c**nt...I dont enjoy moaning and I dont enjoy being negative about my club...I wish to god we could have signed Moutinho and kept VDV..I would have loved to be celebrating tonight but I am not.

Somebody got it wrong and it could prove fatal....as a Spurs fan that really hurts and I am down about it....fvck knows the girlfriend doesnt understand (I am well in the bad books now) but at least I can voice my feelings on here and there are others who will feel the same and understand.

I hate being pessimistic....but nowhere near as much as putting a false face on things.

I have to look at the bigger picture yes we signed a few good players but if we get injuries in certain positions we aren't in a good position. We let rose go? What if bae gets inured what happens then? Same with Lennon and bale? It's all about squad depth which we don't have in key areas. With our track record with injuries it's not the ideal situation.

Pessimism is OK. Pessimism shows that a person cares. That they see bad things when they want to see good. If someone's pessimistic, then it falls to the optimists to buck them up.

What I've seen tonight has been screed after screed after screed. Against that, there's nothing one can do, because it's about pursuing an agenda. And that's what confuses me - that someone wants to make supporting their club a means to nurse the chip on their shoulder instead of actually enjoying supporting their club.

It's hard not to be a little disappointed. We are lacking in some basic areas and overstocked in others. If the aim was to balance out the squad, I'm not sure we've done that

But there's some great deals in there. Dempsey scored 23 goals last season. I was wondering who bar Ade was going to get the goals now VDV has left, and we've answered that. Great signing for £6m. Lloris for that money is an absolute steal too.

Moutinho is a harsh blow, as he's glamorous and worth a load of money, but to be honest, I'm not sure we'll do too bad with what we've got in the middle. I actually always thought this was fairly fanciful, and we were silly leaving it so late with such a complicated player situation (he has about 10 people who own different parts of his economic rights, so lots of signatures and agreements needed).

I'm actually more gutted we haven't reinforced the wide areas. I think we were all seduced by the idea of playing 433 with genuine wide forwards, but having sold Dos Santos and VDV, our wide undertstudies are now Townsend and Bentley. We just best hope Bale and Lennon don't get injured as we are threadbare beneath them. I foresee a 451 with Dempsey playing off Adebayor rather sooner than we think

Your worst night as a spurs fan ??, Jesus Christ are you in for some pain. I agree losing VDV, Modric was always going so got over that one last summer, and not signing Moutinho have been disappointments but we have signed some very good players and you never know the team may be greater than the sum of its parts, let's wait and see. By the way I remember crying my eyes out as an 8 year old when my dad broke it to me that we had been relegated, the transfer window is over we have what we have and move on. COYS.

We've brought in 6 senior players and yet head in to the new season with two strikers, no creative midfielder and almost a starting XI of goalkeepers.

You pretend to be thrilled if you want - I shan't be joining you.

Dempsey is clearly considered a striker by our manager. We wouldn't have loaned Kane out otherwise. He said he wanted 3: Adebayor, Dempsey and Defoe

Dempsey scored more than both of our 'strikers' last season, for an inferior team with less supply

Thowig ,

Daniel Levy is a nobody who landed on his feet due to his uncle making a packet .

He fiddled his way into becoming the major shareholder of Spurs through a convertible preference share scam which is wrong , wrong , wrong . Whatever you or me may otherwise think of him (and I think he is an above average chairman) he is an unscrupulous character (crook) who has only got where he has got through financial jiggery pokery of doing other shareholders out of their dues .

That is not opinion , it's evidence based .

I'm glad if they managed to get Clint Dempsey to sign before the window closed cos I think he's one hell of a player and in fact much better than these glamour boys in Europe we were being linked with .

Dempsey is the first striker we have signed who can even be mentioned in the same sentence as Berbatov .

I really hope Dempsey is considered a striker, or a wide forward, by AvB. That's how I'm thinking of him and it's probably the main reason for thinking we've upgraded somewhere, afaics. But the memory of Kranjcar never being considered backup to VDV is chilling.

I'd never thought of it how you are alluding to .

I reckon that even after VDV left , AVB would have gone for an out and out striker but that Dempsey may turn out to be a better choice and be able to compensate for the loss of creativity due to losing Rafa and Modric .

I'd like to know why we didn't manage to get Moutinho in after supposedly wasting his time in the window .

I think too many people think its as easy as football manager or FIFA to sign the players you want... All you need is the money and you get them, because you are the only active intelligence in the game do it all revolves around you. In real life every club and player and agent are all trying to do the best for themselves do it's much more complicated.

Modric would not have been the same player if we forced him to stay, he was already demotivated towards the end of last season. So to say we are not as strong with dembele and sig replacing modric and rafa assumes the latter two at their best.

Vdv is rarely fully fit and wouldn't have prospered too well in avb system I don't think. Modders would have been demotivated.

So to have two young, fit, motivated players who really want to play for spurs is IMHO an upgrade, even if they aren't quite of the same quality.

Also if we can fit sig, bale, Dempsey and ade into the same team we have much more goal threat than last season.

Defoe staying is the thing that most surprises me but can only assume that avb thinks he can coach him into being an adequate striker in a 433... Possibly interchanging with Dempsey on rw?

I also note we have signed 2 captains, of France and Ajax, giving us more leadership in the squad and players of a good age to make immediate impact as well as stay for the long term.

I hope that phase 1 was to sort the first team squad and then phase 2 will be to bring in more promising youngsters to be gradually integrated for the future.

Attitude is all important and we have a squad of winners who all desperately want to pull on the lilly white shirt.

That can't be bad surely...

So selling our best players for profit is something we should as fans be happy for? We have no squad depth in certain positions surely that is a priority?

Are you suggesting that Levy sold Modric and VdV for the purpose of making a profit? I remembered the club sold them as Modric wanted to leave to join Real and VdV left for family reasons.
We are building for long term and we still have a strong squad. Lloris and Vertonghen are world class siginngs. Ade is also a very good catch. Finally Dempsey will be our backup striker and he has shown the last two seasons that he is capable of doing a decent job. He is an upgrade to Defoe.

Interesting comments by Striebs about Dan the Man which, if true, are extremely damming reminding me of some of the shenanigans I've come to expect from our crooked governments over here in Central America
One thing is certain though he's given AVB the almost impossible task of reaching 4th without the key player to help him do it.
