Jesus. It must be absolutely rampant in League 2.

Actually, reading that article, as much as we all like Orient, it's bad from them. They had a "number of people suffering with illnesses" before they played Mansfield on Saturday then 9 players with "a bug" and their head physio didn't get them tested. I initially thought all the positive test results must've been asymptomatic because surely they'd get tests done at any signs of illness but if it turns out half of them were ill that's really not great, especially when they go on to say that the "priority is the health and well-being of players and staff". If half your team falls ill during a damn pandemic, isolate them and get them tested ffs.

It seems really odd doesn't it? All I can think it's that they had symptoms that aren't associated with Covid 19. If they've ignored obvious Covid symptoms they'll be in big trouble.

Shame for Leyton Orient as I'm sure they were counting on the funds from the match.

I had a massive amount of sympathy for them but if that story is true, and as unpopular as it's going to be, fuck them.

Loads of players ill with a "bug" and they went ahead with games and would have potentially derailed our season if we hadn't paid for the testing. Yes, the EFL are in the wrong too but the negligence from Orient over this is shocking.

Completely agree. At my work we are still mostly working from home but some people are now back in the office. we’ve been told explicitly not to enter the office if we have any signs of illness, even a slight sniffle. To have so many player ill and dismiss it during a pandemic seems beyond negligence. Madness

I'm not up to speed, anyone know what the consequence for Orient would have been if they'd been unable to fulfill their league fixture because of COVID? I imagine in L2 the need to make sure you stay in the football league is a pretty compelling argument for turning up in spite of illness and hoping for the best.

Agreed. The only people I have sympathy for now are at the Justin Edinburgh foundation who lost that income.

Of course, I wish all involved a speedy recovery. But I was looking forward to watching this match with a nice ruby.

Just said on the radio that the game is in doubt, so it's still not called off, baffling, to say the least.

In hindsight it was a bad call from Orient but it would be interesting to know what symptoms were present at first. My wife's a medic and gets asked her opinion on Covid symptoms sometimes and there are always grey areas.

Astounded that a decision/announcement hasn’t yet been made. Despite this scenario seemingly being inevitable due to the lack of testing at lower league clubs, the EFL appears completely unprepared for it.

Agree that's probably the case if one person got ill without the major symptoms but if there are 9 of you who come down ill during a pandemic, regardless of symptoms you should be getting tested

There was a game recently where 1 team had a confirmed covid case so they had to field a youth side to not forefit the game.
Can't remember the teams but I am assuming something similar is being discussed for this game

A german team fielded 7 players as they were foced to compete against a team that had tested positive. The stood (socially distant) and the other team won 37-0.

Happened with the Czech Republic v Scotland, but obviously easier for them to source other players. Can’t see Leyton Orient being able to do that. This situation just seems ridiculous.

Yeah by keeping 2meters distance from all. Bizarre.
