The problem is we'll have a good game (vs Leeds) and you'll think "maybe they can play in this role", a week later and they show that thye can't.

It's like we're trying to find the least-bad option in midfield because apart from Hojbjerg, no one can be trusted to do a competent all-round job.

Winks can pass but is lightweight and positionally suspect.

Sissoko has a great engine and can be combative but can't pass and isn't really good at anything other than kicking the ball and running after it.

Gedson is a total nothingburger.

Lo Celso can't stay fit and is wildly inconsistent when he does play.

Ndombele doesn't have the stamina for central midfield.

Dele isn't trusted as a central midfielder, probably with good reason.

It is, as you say, a complete mess.

He shouldn’t be because he is still useful and has more goal threat than Moura, Lamela and Bergwijn. Jose is just being stubborn and also killing the value of a major asset for the club! I don’t accept that Gedsen is a better bench option when we won’t be taking up an option on him.

I would be more concerned if we had Hojbjerg and Sissoko with 5 defenders. Reguilon with license to get forward is as attacking as anyone. I'm just a bit surprised Doherty isn't even on the bench (of course all the media attention will be on Alli and Winks missing out). If we're going to play wingback though then Doherty is our best option on the right.

I'm surprised by the selection but hopefully that will throw Sheff Utd.

Its actually ridicilous how many attacking options we have on the bench & Dele is not even there, yet we choose to play with 5 defenders against the leagues bottom team, if ever there was indicator of a manager's ethos, this is it.

Dele was very bad as an 8 when Poch tried to play him there, like seriously dreadful. He has to be a 10/second striker sort of player to be effective and there's no place for that role now. Directly replacing Son is the closest to it but he doesn't have Son's pace so that's a no-go.

Then instead of going to social media why not work harder in training? Talk with Mourinho privately, talk with Levy. That photo he put up does him no favours whatsoever. Whatever you think of José, no manager would select Dele after that.

This is why I don't see Mourinho being the solution, even if we win the league cup or whatever. Sure, the squad absolutely needs investment and a better mentality, which takes time.

But he'll always set up in this negative, cautious way against even the worst teams in the league. Against City and Liverpool, sure. But fucking Fulham and Sheffield United? We have enough quality attackers to give opposition far more to worry about.

If you keep inviting pressure from premier league teams, they will most likely score at some point. And we aren't good enough on the break to make it worthwhile.
