5 at the back against bottom of the league

Probably more like a 3-4-3 and still 6 players with an attacking mindset in the team. Much better than a 4-2-3-1 with Winks and Sissoko in the team imo.

As I wrote in the team thread my Blades supporting mate reckons they’ve been hit by illness and will be forced to make at least 7 changes. He says it will be embarrassing if we don’t win & expects a hiding so I’ve asked him if he’s watched us recently

he lied

We play a 3/5 at the back against Sheffield United and Dele can’t even make the bench loooool I can’t be bothered with this shit anymore
Take it you won't be watching it then?

The constantly changing central midfield is a sign of how the squad was neglected for that period where we didn't sign anyone. Options are good but no one knows what our best midfield is, and not in a City "so many great options" way.
Exactly.

And Jose is trying to find a balance.

The problem is we'll have a good game (vs Leeds) and you'll think "maybe they can play in this role", a week later and they show that thye can't.

Its a mess

Playing Davies LCB too should give Reggy lots of freedom and should also help our build up through that side - Dier has been really poor using his left foot in the build up recently.

If (big if) it's a setup that mimics Rose and Walker as wing-backs ala 2016/17 then it isn't a defensive setup at all.

As I said, big if.
A massive if! I get the premise but I just don't see Jose giving them that licence. I can almost see the back 5 with the 2 central midfielders protecting the centre backs.

Back 3/5 doesn't mean it's defensive squad(it won't be as Aurier and Reguilon will attack a lot). And all Lucas, Lamela, Bale, Vinicius are ahead Dele in the picking order, and looks like we aren't even using a 10 which is the only position he could play
But when we were good under Poch and played 3-4-3 Dele excelled in the 10/winger/second striker hybrid role that Son is more or less playing now.

Although PEH and Ndombele is alright in the middle

3 at the back in possession and 5 at the back out of possession. Seeing as we spend three quarters of the game out of possession, we’re essentially playing 5 at the back.

You’ve got a spare CB essentially covering the full back on both sides and Bale still can’t be trusted? What is the fucking point? We all know he won’t come off the bench so why not have the balls to start him at least once?

Don’t even get me started on Gedson fucking Fernandes getting a spot on the bench over Dele.

I’m sick to death of this negative bullshit.

I like the way we’ve set up, if its actually a back 3 and the wing backs do push up. If ends up being a back 5 it will be another waste of a Sunday afternoon.

No Dele or Winks in the squad, playing 5 at the back to combat their style, only Jose ... did the same vs Wolves & look how that ended

What picture was that?
He put a pic up on his story of him head on hand with that bored/fed up look on his face. I understand why he feels that way, but putting that out there on socials isn't going to endear you to a guy like José. Dele was never going to be involved today after that. No way.

Really exciting to see Rodon start, I think he'll have a cracking game... fingers crossed

I’d feel better if we could fit another couple of defenders on the pitch but I reckon we can see this one out. COYS

Everyone needs to forget about Dele. He's finished at this club. For better or worse we don't yet know but its plain he doesn't fit into how Jose wants to go forward with the team.
