Is it cos he is white?
Come on guys. This is a good deal for us, and with the combined fee of Bassong and Dawson, we can re-invest and create something exciting here. That is what we want. Dawson has been solid for us, but it is now time to move on.

If it is true that Dawson rejected QPR then I have even more respect for the guy. I am sure QPR offered him silly money and would have been easier to just go get guaranteed first team football earning a tonne load more but instead he wants to stay with us get his place back earning no doubt less.

Id clap the guy if there was a clapping smiley.

Getting £9 mill in for him would help us as well. I have to say. I really want to sell him for that transfer fee.

But why? He plays with a smile on his face, that and being black are two very important things to you aren't they?

I have previously said that he has been solid for us, but it is time to move on. He is 28 now, and when we get a bid of £9mill for him, it is basically a very good deal for us. We are in a phase now, where we can build an exciting team with new exciting players. I want to join that revolution. Sometimes someone you don't want to leave still have to leave. That is how it is, but something new and good is just around the corner. We have been a mid table team most of the time except the last few years. Now Levy and the management are trying to make something special here. We have to support that.

Bit hard considering he WON'T be playing

This is so annoying. I keep reading this crap.

Even if Daws has been ridiculously bumped down to being 5th choice, you do know we are competing in four competitions this season, right? What is the likelyhood of managing to keep all our other CB's fit for the entire season and Dawson never playing? Why wouldn't AVB choose to play Daws and Caulker in Europe? Who's to say Kaboul won't be out for the season come November like Daws was last year?

This repeated assertion that Dawson will never play under AVB is bollocks, and highly frustrating.

I agree with you on this point, but did you get as excited when we were looking to sell Bassong...? :sneaky:

(credit to you for mentioning him in your post though).

If? What? Maybe?

If Dawson is happy with this role without causing waves fair enough, Just think at the stage of his career he would want regular football.

Doesn't change the fact that the 'he won't play' crap is just that, crap.

They were certainly pressing a higher line IMO.

Eh, and how did that make Dawson worse than the rest, Because that certainly affects how the strikers and midfielders play more than the last four? The only reason I can see him leaving is that he didn't like the prospect of being 5th in the line of the center backs. He wants play time.

Dawson is reliable and strong in the air - he would be great for those tricky days at Stoke or the other long ball merchants.

We need to build a squad not decimate it. Four defenders when one is fairly inexperienced, one is 35 and injury proned and one is new to the league is asking for trouble. Dawson is someone I like and I have said this before we expect loyalty from players but where is our loyalty. When a player shows loyalty by staying he gets lambasted or rather the desire to get the transfer fee is immense. 9m is a great deal but success for me is more important and I think he can help us especially when it comes to the Europa League and FA Cup etc

So why do we slate Modric? or Berba? or Teddy in the past?

If it's true that Dawson wants to stay and fight for his place, then he has shown tremendous character and is exactly what we need more of.

Unlike most on here, I've always rated Dawson, but if the news is true that he wants to stay and fight for his place, then I rate him a lot higher today.

Umm - high defensive line.

You should probably go away and either watch us playing a bit more or read up on AVB's style of play before embarrassing yourself with these types of posts.

Kinda have to agree with SpursKing on this  I would have liked the £9m in the bank I think it was a good deal. Dawson is a solid player but no more.

On the other hand we now have solid backup. The fact that Kaboul just got injured goes to show we can do with some (very) competent backup at centre back. Dawson presumably knows he'll be playing second string this season but is still willing to stay and fight for a first team spot.

Shows great character and dedication. Love the man to bits!

Bit late, lol .... already done that :p

I'm not personally a fan of Dawson and I can see issues with his lack of pace due to AVB's preference to play a high line. However, 1 long term injury to Kaboul or Verts and we're seriously lacking depth and quality at centre back.

Dawson always gives 100% effort and if he can adapt his game to suit the new tactics then we would be stupid to sell him as 1, we're asking for trouble by only having 4 centre backs and 2, finding a new decent defender who will be happy to be 3rd/4th choice isn't going to happen.
