He said he was going to use preseason games to look at the player situation, that's really his best opportunity to look at players he wants and doesn't want and he seems to have taken it.

What puts a spanner in the works here is that Vertonghen looked pretty shit in pre season, Dawson looked his normal self. But then, you can't get rid of the 12m guy that the chairman bought just before you arrived ;-)

You see that's what I'd question most, is that the best time or indeed enough time to assess the situation fully? And is it really fair on the squad? I know sometimes you have to be a bit ruthless, but it just seems a bit unnecessary in this case.

I think that Levy would have consulted AVB before making that purchase, it would be silly of him if he didn't

Perhaps not but he has to sell players to raise funds, wait until january, then some players may lose value further.

True enough. Although in itself that represents a gamble I'm not sure I'd be comfortable at all with in his position. Gutsy management, spectacular if it comes off.

History has a habit of repeating itself at Spurs though, and if it follows the same pattern as Santini > Jol > Ramos > Redknapp, then Boas will be gone by January, someone like Hughes will come in and following some financial trouble at QPR after his departure, will buy back Dawson, Defoe, Taraabt and anyone else we have or may yet sell, then finish a consistent 5th for a couple of years until some other continental harlot catches Danny's eye. So I suppose this is all pretty moot anyway. He'll be back, it's the Spurs way ;)

I think the issue is we are trying to raise funds though and Gallas will not bring in any money, to me they are similar level now, if we can get one more year out of Gallas then this makes financial business sense even if it is gutting to see him go.

Ignore the dislike rate. Was meant to hit like. Sorry.

If Dawson goes, I very much hope that the OS gives him a better send off than the usual. "We have reached agreement with <club> for the transfer of <player>. <Player> joined from <previous club> in <year> and made <number> appearances for the Club. We wish him every success for the future." cookie-cutter bullshit statement.

Daws may not exactly be what the Tottenham of 2012/13 needs, but he has given us excellent and loyal service for 7.5 years now and the Club owes him nothing less than a heartfelt and gracious tribute as and when they announce his departure.

I love Dawson but he's 3rd choice at best at the moment and 10m or whatever when we have 4 decent centre backs and other areas of the team that really need strengthening is good business for us. more cash to put towards cover for the wings, another striker and modric replacement.

Good work AVB for not shying away from the tough decisions.

Wish him all the best though, has always given his all for us.

NO, NO!! We want to sell him for £9mill!!

I don't think I've ever disliked a post on SC as much as this one.

Even the many calling me a (well deserved) **** I've read in the past.

On another note YAY MICHAEL DEMAND 500K A WEEK AND DON'T LEAVE! :)

Liverpool were rumoured to be interested, someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think Drogba only scored once in the whole of his prem career when Dawson played and that was the 5-0 in the FA semis.

You are obviously wrong. He beat Dawson and scored in a league match. Can't be bothered to think of anymore.

Wonderful case of "BC-Vision" again. An alternate descirption was that Drogba got a lucky bounce when the ball came off his or Dawson's shoulder and hit a weak shot which went through Gomes. But, yeah, don't let it spoil your narrative.

One player who did always own Dawson though was our own Ade. Let's hope that continues when we play QPR this year.

You are rewriting history. Lucky bounce it was not. It was a slow defender getting too close to his man. Weak shot? Why don't you just say you hate Gomes.

Probably for the same reason as you're not saying you hate Dawson...?

That doesn't mean another fan hates a player - I remember Gomes' attempted save being pretty crap as well in that incident, doesn't mean I hate him, as I'm sure you don't hate Dawson.

Good player, but he probably doesn't meet AVB's requirements of a high defensive line in the same way Terry didn't at Chelsea, the difference being in this case AVB is being allowed to mould the squad to his requirements rather then trying to put square pegs in round holes and coming up against the senior gits at Chelsea.

Whether his philosophy will work is too early to tell as this high defensive line does scare me a bit, but he needs to be given the chance to make it work and the personell to do it.

For me Caulker would have been ahead of Daws this season anyway and Gallas provides the experienced head and won't be able to play as many games so should be more content being a squad player.
