That would only make sense if you had an implied noncount object like "ground" "time"; as in concede ground, or concede time to someone. We're clearly talking about goals here, so "fewer" is correct. Think we should be "less" anal though, however much of an arsehole Mike Dean was yesterday.
I actually think both could be right, but I believe he meant fewer as he was referring to goals. Less goals is wrong, fewer goals is correct. However, had he meant ‘score more often and concede less often’ then he’d have been correct. It depends if @riggi was speaking about something qualitative (time) or quantitative (goals). I believe he intended the latter.

Interesting, and not entirely wrong. But consider this:
I need to work less
I need to drink less (not true, but...)
I need to fuck less
We need to concede less.
It is when you use fewer that you need the added specification. I need to work fewer. Fewer what? Days? Hours? But "I need to work less" is complete on its own.

No it is probably less, because it is in reference only to "concede". You can't actually count "concede" when it stands on its own. So less of it is probably more accurate than fewer of it.

You're qualifying a verb, so less works. Bblg is also right, re qualifying an adverb like "often" or "frequently"...less is good! It always depends on what is implied...a count/noncount noun, a verb or an adverb. Coopsie has a fair point too.

Not in disagreement, but as the comment (paraphrasing) was that when Mike Dean referees, we need to concede (less or fewer), I inferred that because he was specific in the occasions he was presenting (games referred by mike dean), he was therefore referring doing something specific and therefore quantitative, I.e. I inferred the word goals as being that to which he was referring, ergo he should have used fewer. Only he truly knows if he meant that or if he meant just concede less (in general) in the specific instances where Dean refs us, but that would be a very irregular sentence structure.

Riggi was right. Just took us a while to understand why. I'm sure he feels a whole lot better.

I've just read that the refs are micced up and recorded during matches - will be interesting to see where this goes and what was said by Dean........it'd have to become public knowledge in order to charge Poch.

Hopefully he never referees one of our games again.

As I've said, needs to retire now. He is the sort of bloke who will probably be on I'm A Celebrity in a few years time, then dancing on ice, big brother. Bloke loves himself and loves being the centre of attention.

It's doing the rounds on social media that Dean said "out of the title race, unlucky". Anyone know if there's any truth in this? I.e. has it been leaked by someone at the club or a FA source?

Been replaced as our fourth official vs Chelsea.
He's definitely said something out of order...the PL wouldn't do that if he hadn't done something wrong.
Everything they say gets recorded these days so he's a bit fucking stupid really.

I wonder at this stage what he actually said. Sounds like he's got some blame attached to him if he's being withdrawn from duty of our game on Wednesday.
