Missing midfield conductor?

Of course Spurs miss a player like Modric - which is why most big clubs tried to sign him before he joined Real M. But at least let us give the present play makers - Eriksen, Holtby, Paulinho (more of a box to box player I know) - have time to settle and adjust before calling for new signings in the spot.
Eriksen is still young, and in time should come good.
Ideal, of course, had been to gave swapped Bale for Coentrao, Ozil and Benzema...but none of the players wanted to join Spurs.

Eriksen is the only current player capable of filling the role we're talking about but his recent performances have been very very very worrying!

It's a shame because Dembele could/should be that player. Absolutely world class at beating a man and creating space for himself but unfortunately he's conference league when he gets anywhere near the 18 yard box

We already have the personnel here and include Tom Carroll in that as he has all the attributes to be a cracking player for us and give us a bit more penetration in the opposition third.

Just need to tinker with the system, get the right balance and hopefully the new players settling in well - then we will see a vast improvement in our attacks.

Tom Carroll is the missing midfield conductor.

When we sort our shit out and AVB learns his best team then he's the only real missing piece of the jigsaw.

Buying players to mask deficiencies in playing style is Redknapp logic. It's the job of a coach to get the team functioning well with the players at his disposal. AVB managed to do that last season and he is getting results this season so I don't see any need to add any players to an already very talented squad.

We're missing a Modric.

Someone who patrols around the centre circle and conducts the play. Players makes the runs around him and he plays to serve the.

I've found all season that our cm's are too impatient and don't seem to know their roles.

They get forward too often and it disrupts the shape and intercepts the runs and positions of those who SHOULD be getting forward.

I know I keep harping on about modders, but I watch him carefully for Real and remember his time with his. A true puppeteer pulling all the strings.

We need that!

Agree with the first bit but I'd go further and say that we don't have enough quality passers of then ball in our squad. Period. Its why its imperative that Eriksen, Holtby and Lamela need to be integrated into the team together soon rather than later imo.

Afraid I can't agree with the second bit. Of course you don't want players getting in each others way but we need more of our midfielders getting forward imo. Paulihno seems to have been making far less bursts into the box in the league of late and it should't just be down to him. The only player who needs to sit in Sandro imo.

I guess most agree with you hence talking about who in our current squad (and loanee's) could potentially be seen in that role

Thats why they are called Talkshite.

Do you think we create enough chances? I think the stats hide the fact that our 'chances' are really hopeful punts from outside the area.
I think you are probably right. The chances created do seem to be poor chances in the main. Seems so anyway.

Lock this this thread till the end of the campaign. We have these player's.
Holtby lamela and erickson.
This trio will sort it given time.
lamela proved knee jerking isn't cool and you might not look wise after only a couple of games.
Capoue behind.
Looking like dream team for us given time.

Bale aside, I think inspite of the massive injection depth we have had into the squad we are still missing Modrics ability to hold the ball / probe for gaps while none of our present squad has the range and accuracy of Huddlestones passing. This inevitably leads us to do things a different way.
BTW With our glut of central midfielders I'd be pushing Dembele across to FB / LWB.....he would be better there than Naughton and we would not to Vert out left.

Agree with Mr Pink. Integrating Eriksen and Lamela in time will solve this.

I think using Siggy again in place of Lennon on the left would improve things too.

Only with the right full-back, Vertonghen plays better as an attacking threat with Lennon than he does Sigurdsson but when Rose is back Sigurdsson may be better for him than Lennon.

Notice how much better we looked last night when Paulinho came on? He is the important one in our midfield. I want to see Eriksen, Paulinho, Capoue with Lamela. Plenty of good stuff there.

Indeed. If you have a system that has attacking full backs, you need at least one of the players on each wing to have covering pace. If Jan is at LB, Lennon provides the pace. If it's Rose, you can have Sig.

Unbelievably and worryingly Rose has been a huge loss to us a threat to the opposition and in terms of our lack of creativity
