This is just speculation though. Slot had an escape clause next year.

It's just not realistic that Slot would cost 15m if Slot wanted to come. Managers just don't cost that much unless they are super managers like Nagelsmann or Potter who both went to clubs in the same division. The market for coaches is a lot cheaper, than players.

I think people just don't have a grip on what the market is for coaches buyouts. It's wildly different to players. If Slot wanted the job and Feyenoord were asking 15m for him, Slot would know thats unrealistic and be more angry with Feyenoord than Tottenham.
Mate it's all speculation. Half the stuff in your 'facts' post was based on media speculation too.

None of us know exactly what happened and I'm sure Levy being a bellend played somewhat of a role in all of this too, but I also don't think it's that unlikely that Feyenoord asked for big bucks. In the early reports there were rumblings of them wanting a 12m fee and he is, quite literally, the best thing to happen to their club this century - their success is solely down to him not down to player talent.

And again, does Slot want to get into a protracted fight with the club where he just won the league in order to maybe force a move to a basketcase club like Spurs? If I'm in his shoes I'm looking for the perfect project and any red flags from a club like Spurs, who are a proven managerial graveyard, would have me thinking twice.

Anyway, sorry for derailing the thread. UP THE ANGE!!

Sorry but your whole train of thought on this is just wrong. There were no buy out clauses and it is not just a case of looking at what they earn multiplying by how long they have left on their contracts. Feyenoord are entitled to demand what they want and see who is prepared to pay it. Maybe a Court would have awarded them less than they were demanding if Slot had just walked out and Feyenoord had to bring a breach of contract claim but he was never going to do that as its risky and not good for reputation. Similarly, Spurs wouldn't take the risk of forcing it and facing an uncertain court case.

It's not wrong, Feyenoord wouldn't want that either. Nobody would want it, that's why if Slot truly wanted to come to Spurs it absolutely would not have come anywhere near 15m. Spurs know this, Slot knows it and so does Feyenoord.

I think they just put out the 15m story to prepare a negotiating position and then a day later Slot speaks to Spurs and thinks 'Fuck this' and doesn't want to come to Tottenham.

So, if it is Ange we are going for, and he likes to make his own signings? Where does that leave the DOF search? Or is it going to be re-jigged and be between Munn and Ange? If they’re on the same page, I wouldn’t be against that, but I’m not sure that’s within Munn’s actual role.

This has disaster written all over it.

I just fear it's going to be one or the other. He's either going to have us playing refreshingly expansive and exciting football and we'll see good enough signs to have faith in him going forward, or he's going to struggle and quickly appear overwhelmed. Because of his limited experience at a high level, it will be hard to entrust him with reshaping the squad in his image if he shows signs of struggle early on. In my head, there are other managers available who wouldn't cause me such concern even if they started slow.

I've actually come around to and accepted him being appointed as it's increasingly seeming inevitable, but I'll be massively apprehensive at the same time.

Few things on this:

- I think Postecoglou is far below the standard of manager Spurs should be hiring
- I think his previous achievements amount to very little considering where they took place, and are not a feasible barometer of his potential in the hardest league in world football
- I think it's an absolute shambles that Spurs haven't tied down a top manager (such as Nagelsmann) in recent days given the sheer number of managers available

Despite all that I am:

- Absolutely willing to support Postecoglou just as I would and always have supported any manager of our club - no matter my reservations it's in my interest to be proven wrong
- Perfectly happy to give him plenty of time to get the team in a place where he wants it, including turning over the squad
- Excited by the potential if nothing else of exciting football, a manager who is articulate and clear, and a general improvement in the Spurs "mood"

However, given the propensity for managers to tell Levy to fuck off, the fact that we haven't yet sorted out a DoF (or seemingly if we even want one), and the absolutely vast amount of work needed on the squad this summer, I am in no way going to start getting any hopes up at this stage - we've been "on the verge" of signing several managers in the past who it turns out have been scared off by Levy.

So until it's done it's not done, and I'll stay firmly detached from it all.

If Ange gets the job, this thread will be back in Nov/Dec. Hope I'm wrong.

Again, depends on what the expectation is. Im all about the restart and strengthening our squad, foundation and culture. As long as we arent like 10 defeats in 12 then im easy on this. As long as we arent like out of the Carabao cup etc.

We all know we also need the back line strengthened, if we dont... then itll be the other thread that will be above the Ange one.

Big step up from Celtic , last two seasons incoming transfer spend, 30 million and 26 million , and that's euros , is he suitable for the PL and spending that sort of money on just one player and not several as he has done at Celtic.

I don’t have Ange-Fever, I’ve caught full blown Postecoglouenza, and I’m starting to develop Postecogloumatoid Arthritis.

Apologies if this has been posted but this is quite funny. Not sure what conclusion to draw but it is a bizarre interview.

At least he's not inexperienced at handling critiscm because lord knows he'll have plenty of that at Spurs.:ROFLMAO:

Thought this was interesting.

A number of people state that he overspent everyone in SPL.

Which is true.

But is that really a problem when you spend it well?

Plenty of coaches go into relatively easy leagues and splurge money yet don't have that level of success.

Benfica did that under Jorge Jesus and started to fall away.

I'd also say that Postecoglou seems to have a very good idea of what kind of player he wants in at the club and that may have earnt him the trust of the owners.

Conte was getting backed by Levy up until the latter part of the last summer window.
He then wasn't backed at all in January.

Felt to me like Levy realised he had no appetite to;

1. Back a coach who may leave soon.
2. Just spend big on experienced high earners.

I think all that started to unravel and Levy realised he needed a coach who would be content with signings like Spence.

This is where Postecoglu may be much better.

I highly doubt this is a guy who will come in and demand 50 or 60m players or experienced high earners for that matter.

He'll ask for players that fit his style, but those could easily be under the radar types.

Ok tinfoil hat time.

Perhaps Levy is happy to spend but only on players that fit this profile.

Postecoglou proved that he was able to get a typically stingy chairman spending, so perhaps it's more of a case of Postecoglou going in and saying "I can make the budget work".

Being Australian I am bias and have fond memories of Ange.

Winning an international tournament with the trash squad Australia had in 2015, in my opinion, was very impressive. Club football, he's paved his way nicely, and has done everything he can do to become a winner wherever he has gone.

If he's the guy, let's get around him
