Honestly? I don't know too much about him, I know he has been regular for Brazil, I know he is a genuine left footed left back - but I also know he has been at Hertha (hardly world beaters) and he is 31.

So I will reserve judgment on him (as well as our other signings) untill the end of the season. Our defence was in urgent need of attention and it seems DC JR and DL have delivered the players, now it is up to JR and GP to make them gell.

What's the problem with it? He's only 31. He's a defender. He's a Brazil international. He's apparently quite good. What's the obsession with buying 12 year olds who we can sell on for a profit in a few years time?

If anything it shows ambition because we're signing an established international who can do the business now, not possibly in a few years time.

and he cost less than 2 million. the way I see it, if we get half a dozen good games out of him this season it will be a better return than the 17 mil spent on Bent.

That's how I see it. We have Lee who doesa very good job there. Our 2 backups are injured, O'Hara has done ok there but is inexperienced and is also more effective in midfield, Gardner has covered there but he's gone out on loan.

For less then 2 million quid we have an experienced international for the left side who could certainly be very useful for the first team as well as helping out some of our younger players (paticularly mr Bale) who certainly are potentially great prospects for the future.

31-years old is hardly "old fart". Don't know anything about him, but hopefully he'll be good for us. He is a Brazilian international, so can't be bad (can he?). Another question is how he suites for the Prem football.

Completely agree with you  A bot of experience at the back hopefully.

The club can't fucking win can they?

They snap up all the Youngsters in Europe and people complain.

They buy THE Brazilian international left-back and people complain.

I was thinking JUST the same. Some people never happy...although I think the thread starter knew what was coming.

I can't see him being a better left back than Lee or a better left midfielder than Malbranque, but hopefully a good addition to the squad.

he'll provide the width Malbranque can't and he will provide valuable experience for Bale, Gunter & Rose.

I think he should hopefully give us some better balance on that left side. I can already see how it will work with him overlapping Steeeeed down the left. It'll be a thing of beauty and our starting lineup hasn't looked this good in ages. I expect Albelda on a free at some point too.
