I know next to nothing about him but on the basis of that I confidently predict he is a good signing :)

PS I think Lee is a good prem LB - so hopefully now we'll have two good fit Prem LBs - with cover in gunter & O'Hara - sounds sweet to me

plus gilberto can play LM too I believe - which is nice

Some fans are idiots got to be honest. Gilberto is a class player and most you guys cant of seen him play. He's most prob fitter then than most in our team.

oh dear......

Wrong and racist all in one go.

My Friend, please racist i am not, buy nicknaming a player does not mean i am racist, yes it might be my poor humour, but please refrain from using such strong words.

And i am entitled to my opinions on any player just like anybody else, but what i would say is that if YPL is so good and so consitent then why has Juande played Gunter and O'Hara there in the last 2 games,???

First of all, Lee is a defender, and there aren't many better full backs and defending than him (I don't find him frustratingly lightweight at all). Secondly, all of his attacking build up play must go unnoticed to most of you. He's not brilliant at crossing, but he doesn't have to be. We don't even really have anyone in the team that can cross very well, but we don't play like that anyway.

When you say "the lane", do you mean White Hart Lane? Because I'm not so sure that you do. He often has a final ball, it's just rarely a cross. His positional play is very very good, so I'm not sure what your problem with that is. When he cuts in, does he usually manage to get it to another Tottenham player, helping our attack progress? I would say he does.

Maybe BAE was bought with the intention of replacing him, but that certainly didn't happen as he's proven that he's nowhere near to the quality of Lee. Bale, again, is nothing like as good defensively as Lee, and they both complimented each other well, I thought, when Bale was on the left wing in front of Lee. Lee can't play right back as well he can left back because left back is his position and has been his whole career. It doesn't matter that he's right footed. Some players are better on the opposing side to their stronger foot, especially when they've spent at least a decade playing there.

This really upsets you does it not, listen son i am like everyone else on here allowed to have an opinion, And yes i do mean white hart lane where i have held a season ticket for nearly 16 years, so i think that allows me to have my say, my god i was there while Kerslake was at left back and granted YPL is not as bad as him, But the whole point of football is its all about opinions, and that was mine, i read and respect everything you have said in your post, but O'Hara and Gunter at left back in the last 2 games??? and Gilberto maybe Mr Ramos does not rate YPL either, oh but im sure if you phone up and tell him your opinion he will change his mind

So what you really think?

I would rather have an "Old Fart Defender" than a guy who tries to convince himself he is a left back who hardly uses his left foot and turns his back on the ball like he did against Tevez last week which cost us, and is constantly chasing a players shadow all the time because he can't read the game.(AKA Lee).

So, when Bale gets back, we will have proper options on the Left.

Ageist!

He's only a year older than Leapy, and younger than Super Ed was when we signed him.

I love that word - Ageist

Some people on here should really get their act together and try and understand how a team must be built. I love the fact that we've made moves for Woodgate and Gilberto.

its quite clear to me the merits of this deal, to be fair i cant really understand what the fuss its about, and like someone already said the club just cant seem to win with some idots on here.

We dont have bale or BAE for the rest of the season (likely if reports and snippets of ITK are to be believed) Both are very young anyway and have a great future at spurs potentially. We have Lee, who is a good player but is oour only avalisble choice in that position, and his lack of left foot goes restrict our play at times.

So we have the chance to bring in an experienced left back, very good on the ball by al accounts, verstaile, played most of his career in Brazil and is very expericed - and every one on the board this season has been griping about our lack of experience at the back. This experience will help the development of our younger players. He is versatile and will also give us an option in midfield if required.

It is not about picking either Lee or Gilberto, both are options avaliable to suit our team and the tactics we are playing at any particular time.

Oh yeah, and Ramos is no mug, if its good enough for him its good enough for me.

He might well be, but Y P Lee has been one of our most consistent players since he joined the club.

But i don't want someone who is consistently not-quite-good-enough-but-gives-his-all-every-game. I want someone better than Lee there, particularly if he can head the ball better than a 5-year-old child.

Didn't upset me, but I clearly up set you... dad.

Everyone's allowed their say. Makes no difference how long you've watched Tottenham.

Lee was rested (which was long overdue) and then had to fill in at right back due to Chimbonda being suspended.

Lee has been terrific for us, but I've been very disappointed in him over the past couple of months or so. A noticeable drop in form. Perhaps he knew we were going for a replacement (and knows Bale is going to get his spot when the Welshman returns). Plus, he is crap on the right. Awful game against Man Utd.

I don't doubt for a second that Gilberto will be 1st choice, and I am equally convinced Lee will leave us in the summer. Probably for somewhere actually quite good, as he really does have the quality to be part of a mean 'proper' defence.

Mate, if he was that good then why haven't the Big Boys from around europe been knocking at the door to try and sign him.
He wouldn't get in any of the teams in the top 4.
The only reason he has had so many games this season is because both of our other left backs have been injured.
We wouldn't have paid so much for Bale if he was that important to us.
We should have sold him last summer.
So to sum up what i've been saying he is just not good enough mate.
Period.

Who would you have played at LB this season then? if we had sold him?

He's been better than Chimbonda, Dawson & Kaboul this season

Regardless of positional play and player harrying, one thing Gilberto will offer over Lee is considerable aerial presence - something we have sorely struggled with all season. Our new defensive signings should hopefully go a long way to sorting out our set piece frailties.

Another consideration is that Wipey may well be used a lot with Gilberto playing on the left if Steed is used somewhere else or is injured/rested/suspended. The signing makes sense and gives us more options and flexibilty.
